Imphal, Feb 3: January 24 became a historical day for all the Parishioners of St Joseph church ChoitharManipur, as their newly built church was blessed by Archbishop of Imphal, Most Rev Dr Dominic Lumon and inaugurated by Provincial Minister of Holy Trinity province Karnataka Fr Dolphy Pais OFM Cap.
The foundation stone for the new church was laid in the year 1998 and aftertwenty years of long struggle, the dream of a new church became a reality for the parishioners of Choithar. Around 1000 people had gathered in the church premise in order to mark this great event. A P Mark Luithing, Hon'ble councillor Choithar, Council constituency, UADC the chief guest for the function, unveiled the Memorial Stone.
Archbishop Dominic Lumon presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration. During the felicitation programme Fr Dolphy Pais, the Provincial released the souvenir of the parish. Prayer dance, special song and choreography presented by the parishioners added flavor to the programme. In the vote of thanks Fr Vincent the parish priest thanked the bishop, provincial, fathers, sisters, catechists, village heads, pastors from different churches for their valuable presence. He also thanked Daijiworld benefactors as well as all other generous benefactors for helping to build the new church on the hill top of Choithar.
Finally the programme concluded with a closing prayer by Linus, the local Catechist which was followed by a festal meal.
