The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has over 3600+ monuments under its custody, including 36 world heritage sites. It has to reach out to the private sector to adopt the monuments. In fact, ASI spent more money to build its new headquarters than it did on the conservation of the monuments in 2017.
Moreover, only 116 monuments have entry tickets, which can earn revenue. Upgrading services at these monuments, including at the Taj Mahal, would give tourism a better boost than spending Rs 3,000 crore on one political statue.
Across the world, historical monuments and sites are a far better tourist magnet than any modern construction. That is why the Eiffel Tower gets almost 7 million tourists every year compared to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which gets 2 million tourists despite being the tallest building in the world.
In Italy when Colosseum, the world’s most recognized Roman monument need a scrub, the common people took 'toothbrush' and painstakingly cleaned it. But in India Archeological monuments are handed over private parties and hooliganism continues with destruction.
Why don't those 'Kar Sevak' come together and restore the thousands of historical monuments instead of destruction?

Shame on ASI. For one year this has gone unnoticed? Suspend all the ASI staff and appoint new ones.

Talibans pulled down Buddha statues in Afghanistan. Shree Ram temple in Ayodhya, Mathura Shree Krishna Temple and few more in India were brought down by the muslim invaders with the help of local hooligans. Structures came after on them creating disputes. People should respect the land and structures that were in those sites before invasion and give up those lands to Hindus to erect temples there instead of creating nuisance.

Jossey, What nonsense is this? Is Babri Masjid a heritage building? You can pull down any church and build a Mosjid on it and declare it a Heritage Structure? Think twice, before you convey something.
