Mangaluru, Feb 4: In an explosive information that has come to light, Vijay Shetty alias, Vicky Shetty, underworld don of coastal Karnataka origin had planned to eliminate Ravi Poojary, underworld don of Udupi origin, now arrested by Senegal police.
Once upon a time, both Vicky and Ravi were close to each other. However, they turned sworn enemies since many years. Dawood Ibrahim gang had planned to kill Chota Rajan in Bangkok in the year 2000. It is said that Ravi Poojary helped Dawood in that operation through Chota Shakeel. After this incident both Vicky and Ravi became bitter enemies.

Ravi Poojary was trying to extract ransom (hafta) from the close associates of Vicky Shetty since one or two years. In addition, Ravi used to threaten some entrepreneurs of coastal region with dire consequences. This had made Vicky Shetty fume on Ravi. It is said that Vicky Shetty was trying to kill Ravi since two years.
It is learnt from CID sources that Vicky had put a high level sketch to eliminate Ravi two months ago in Ivory Coast which is near Senegal. Ravi Poojary used to roam around in African countries since two years and conducting business. Vicky Shetty gang has kept a watch on his movements. Vicky has got the information that Ravi is in Ivory Coast for some business deal and had planned to murder him. However, Ravi escaped on that day as he did not go to Ivory Coast as planned.
It is learnt through police sources that high ranked police officers from Bengaluru and Delhi have reached Senegal to extradite Ravi Poojary to India. The officials of the Indian High Commission in Senegal are undertaking the necessary process through Interpol in this regard. For a small country like Senegal, the arrest of Ravi Poojary is not an important event at all. So the probability of sending Ravi to India is more instead of making Ravi go through the legal process of Senegal. As soon as Ravi arrives to India, it is learnt that he will be produced to the court and handed over to the police to conduct investigation with regards to the numerous cases that are registered against him.
The accomplices of Ravi Poojary in Mangaluru, Udupi, Bengaluru and Mumbai, who used to carry out his orders of extraction of ransom and also make threatening calls in his name, are shivering on the prospect of extradition of Ravi Poojary to India. Police are suspecting the hand of local people in helping Ravi Poojary to carry out his illegal activities in India. So there is a possibility that vital information like the names of the people with whom Ravi Poojary had contact in India will be unearthed. For the same reason, such people are in a panic situation now.
CCB police of Bengaluru have made all preparations to take Ravi Poojary into custody as soon as he is brought to India. Additional police commissioner Alok Kumar has already given orders to gather the information about the various cases that are registered against the gangster. In addition, in CCB itself, around 46 cases are registered against Ravi Poojary. In Bengaluru, various cases of extraction of ransom, murder, attempt to murder and threatening with life are registered against the don as per the information given by the CCB police.
According to sources, Maharashtra police will take the custody of Ravi Poojary as soon as he is brought to India. Only after they complete their initial investigation, he will be handed over to the Karnataka police. This process will take many days according to the sources in police.
