Kundapur: Central team to verify highway works between Mangaluru and Goa border

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Feb 5: Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, said that a team would be deputed to check national highway works being undertaken between Mangaluru and Goa border, on February 15.

His assurance came when state minister for panchayat raj, R V Deshpande, met the central minister at New Delhi on Monday and held discussions. During the talks, Deshpande, urged Gadkari to see that the highway work gains momentum. The central team being deputed now will have minister's private secretary, Vaibhav Dange, and other officials as its members. Deshpande said that the minster has indicated that the general public can bring to the notice of the team about the problems they face on account of highway under construction.

Deshpande said that works are on between here and 189 km on national highway 66. "There is a need to complete the works by duly taking care the safety aspect. But a look at the work completed so far gives an indication that safety aspect has not been given the importance it deserves. At many places, additional construction of flyovers and service roads have to be built. Service road works have not been properly executed. In many places, roads have been elevated, making it difficult for small children to cross the roads. In certain cases, restrictions on not entering the highway have created trouble for the local vehicle users. I have requested the concerned to keep these things in mind and add additional works as requested by the people," Deshpande stated.

What about road from Surathkal to BC road? Probably the worst designed road ever.

Right! First of all there was no need to construct flyovers at both Surathkal & BC Road. This was only a money making venture for vested interests. In addition to spoiling the look of the towns, these one-way flyovers have increased traffic congestion without proper service roads. Instead they should have installed traffic signals or constructed roundabouts with speed breakers.
