Mangalore, Jan 29:
The Akhila Bharata Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) on Saturday January 31 urged the district administration to withdraw the licenses of pubs in the city.

Staging a protest against pub culture and attack on women, in front of the district commissioner’s (DC) office, they urged stern action against the assaulters. They also said that pub culture is against Indian society and it has seriously-affected the studying habits of students in the city.

Condemning the attack on women at the pub on Saturday January 24, demonstrators demanded the administration impose control over the media for projecting the city in a bad light nationally by exaggerating the pub incident.

Earlier, demonstrators took out a protest march from the taluk office to the DC office. State executive member Srinidhi Hegde, Akshata, state secretary, and Ravichandra P M were present on the occasion.

Shame on you women for this. What's wrong is wrong ? Let's not try and justify this in any way. Suddenly hitting a woman has become part of Indian Culture ? Why do men wear pants and shirts ? Is'nt this a western culture? Let's go beat them up now. I feel ashamed to be an Indian right now.

What do we expect from ABVP, the student wing of the same party whose ideologies are the basis for SRS, RSS, Bajarang Dhal. Not one plackard/banner asking for actions on people involved in assualt?? Shame on these people who take to streets with a blind fold on thier eyes, covering the issue at hand and focusing on fabricated issues.

Ban Pub Culture. Side by side, stop sending ur children to English Medium, that is not our Indian Culture. Wearing western clothes, eating western food in hotels, speaking english ( 75%present generation is speaking english now) is not our culture. What u Shiva Sena people can ban. We Indian's 99% depending up western culture. Without that we cann't survive in this world. Dont allow any Hindu to go abroad and work also. Whoever goes to abroad, they may forget our Indian Culture and bring western culture to India. If u want to ban pub culture, Ist try to educate youngsters, dont beat and harass them. That is not a way to teaching . If u ban Pub , they will go and drink in some other places or in some other way.

Media must and should have full freedom to function in a democratic country. Only under dictatorships media is under restrictions. If the so called Rama sena is doing the right thing, why are they scared of the media ?

Going to a pub with my wife, sisters, female members of my family and my female friends is my business only and if i feel like it i will do it again and again. Nobody has given the right to the BJP, ABVP, Ram Sene, Bajranj Dal and Ashok Ghelot's to stop me. It is my own private and fundamental right.

Dear Sangh Parivar, It is very good that you are defining what is Indian culture and what is good for Indian women. Talibans detroyed all Buddaha satues in Afganishan telling it is not their cultue. Are you ready to destroy all those Khujarao erotic statues ? You can also close down all those cinema houses , screening bollywood movies, where you dont see fully covered women. May be you can think about introducing Pardha for all women in Mangalore. I am thinking about opening a new pardha business soon.

Dear young women...please do not listen to these culprits. You are our future ( and me as well!!) It seems that you are well educated and see from the practical side. If you start following your disciples, surely our Inida will be torn apart. I am sure the western will treat as another Afghanistan and tell to the world we run terrorist camps. This will not lead you to anywhere...Think twice

Hello Students, Do you people aware on our Indian Constitution? Have you heard about 'Freedom of Speech' by chance in your life? Please try to educate yourself first then come to the field along with your demands. Committing crime and trying to divert the incident is not a smart thing because the entire world comes to know that what is actually going on in Mangalore due to unwanted anti social elements.

This is purely Sangha Parivar / Bhajarang Dal Motive..If pubs should be banned..no probs ban film industry as well..because film is not our culture...My Dear poor students first of all use your own mind and think for a while that for what you are protesting..because of the excellent media this recent pub attack came into light in the world..otherwise...there is no one to ask about the poor girls in the pub... All these students unions are not really weorking for the welfare of the students..This protest is purely a political based and just for vote bank....all the participating students should think about it...

ABVP and Parivar nationalists: Here is what you need to do

      1. Help the poor women who have been forced to practice commercial sex - there are estimated around 1000 sex workers in Udupi alone.

2.Create awareness about sexually transmitted disease- India is leading in HIV cases after South Africa- mostly people from poor economic groups are vulnerable and not pub going.

3.Alcoholism in rural daksina Kannada is on the rise. create awareness among rural women and all people.

It is very unfortunate! There is a smell of Sangh Parivar Motive from these ABVPs. They are trying to divert the real issue by demanding ban on pubs and the honest media who tried their best to expose the evil sources of our very society.

I dont understand this !! If people dont like pub culture, why cant the people shout slogans against the Government to ban the pubs and stop any income from these things. The people and the government has double standards on these and to be fair, please do not interfere on our lives. We will decide what is good for us and what is not. Jai Ho....

What a pity, a repeat of the "When Rome was burning, the emperor was playing the fiddle." Mangalore and India are burning, and facing a very serious threat to their security and freedom. Instead of addressing the actual problems and looking for solutions, they (ABVP) are having fun with their foolish and childish demands

As usual the main issue of assaulting women and the Rama Sena assuming the police role is soon forgotten and the attention is focussed on other issues. They know pretty well that each time similar crime is committed until the media attention lasts, they get security of police custody and come out again greater force to commit another crime. As long as the politicians and the police protection is available to these goondas, nothing is going to change. They just get more media publicity.
