Doha: MCC Event 'Baila Dabazo' - a Grand Success

Doha, Feb 1: The Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Qatar, which, in its 16th year of existence is one of the oldest socio-cultural clubs in Qatar, staged yet another mega Konkani show ‘BAILA DABAZO’ by the world famous ‘Mandd Sobhann’ (Guinness World Record holder for its Konkani Niranthari Marathon Non-stop group singing) troupe lead by Konkani Viswa Kala Ratn Bab Eric Ozario on Friday, 30th January 2009 at the Gulf Cinema, Doha.
When Bab Eric Ozario led from the front as the lead vocalist, his better half Joyce Ozario was by his side to lend her voice in many a melodious and meaningful songs. Another star on the Konkani music horizon, sweet voiced Prakash D’Souza and the ever popular Anita Samson mesmerized the audience with their matchless singing performance.
While the melody of the music soothed the ears, the lyrics of the songs made one ponder, the scintillating dances by the ‘Naach Sobhann’ team of Avil D’Cruz, Anil Spinoza, Jeetan D’Cunha, Marula Nisha, Snehal Spinoza and Sweety D’Cruz were a feast to the eye. The dancers danced to their hearts’ content, as if it was their last dance. The movements were graceful, expressions flawless, energy bountiful and the crowd of over 700 could feel that the dancers enjoyed what they were doing as much as they did.
The music was simply superb. One could see the professionalism in the talented youngsters. Roshan D’Souza, the lead guitarist, Ashit Pinto, the base guitarist, Richard Monteiro on the keyboard, Sachin Sequeira, the drummer, and Umesh Iddya on the saxophone and trumpet jelled in music like milk and water. With a perfectly balanced sound they made most in the audience dance to their tune.
Daiji Dubai’s ‘Best Young Talent’ award winner, writer and dramatist Nellu Permannur and Alwyn Veigas kept the audience laughing with their unique jokes and act.
To ice the cake, Stany Alvares of Dacter Damyav TV serial fame, compered the musical show with his inimitably unique style.
The program started with the welcome address by the President Alwyn D’Souza. The program was graced by the most admired senior Indian in Qatar, the chairman of the advisory committee to the Indian Cultural Center, Mr. Hassan Chougule as the Chief Guest.
The past president of MCC Mr.Richard D’Souza was honoured by the Chief Guest with a plaque and shawl for his service and leadership to the community and for his invaluable contribution to the club’s growth. His wife Mrs. Jenny D’Souza was felicitated with a basket of fruits.
A souvenir commemorating the the occasion was released by Mr.Chaugule in the presence of the Editors Joyce Alvares and Prakash Noronha and other executive committee members. Cultural secretary Reena Castelino compered the formal function.
The special attraction was the live quiz conducted by Ronald Rodrigues which made the audience put on their thinking caps.
Vishwa Kala Ratn Bab Eric Ozario was introduced to the audience by the club’s General Secretary Oliver Pereira and was felicitated with a memento and shawl by Jerald D’Mello, Founder Member. Bab Eric in turn introduced his ‘Mandd Sobhann’ troupe of 17 who were also honoured with a memento by Mr. D’Mello.
Youth Coordinator Errol Sequeira proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The show ended on a high note with 20 minutes of non-stop Baila Masala which rocked the audience and had the youngsters grooving to the tune.

As promised, the 20 songs, 10 dances, 7 jokes and 20 minutes of absolute non-stop Baila madness made 'BAILA DABAZO' a big bundle of sheer entertainment of the highest quality to all those present.
