Mangalore, Feb 5:  The thieves had a field day on Wednesday February 4, as they got richer by over Rs 60 lac in a single stretch. They entered Sri Laxmi Sauharda Cooperative Bank, Padil Nagori in the city on the night of Wednesday and took away cash and valuables without any resistance.

The gang, of which the policemen has no clue as yet,  robbed Rs 1.42 lac in cash and the gold jewellery pledged by the people for the gold loans they had borrowed. Taking into consideration the fact that banks usually lend upto 80% of the market value of the jewellery, the value of the gold ornaments pledged must be over Rs 60 lac, as the bank has reportedly lent Rs 45 lac by way of gold loan.

The robbers broke the locks of the society's front shutters to gain entry into the bank and then the almirahs to access cash and jewellery.  As the society is not equipped with alarm system, no one came to know of the robbery till the society opened for business on Thursday February 5 morning. It did neither have central locking system nor any security.

Kankanady rural police have registered a case and begun investigations. Finger print experts have arrived and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service. The way the robbers have gone through their task makes one believe that they knew the systems prevalent in the society well.

The bank which doest not have security alarm or central lock is said to be bakala that means the grocery shop. What happened to Mangalore? How come there is no guard in the bank who can give security? How the public can get an assured in their property from banks if this kind of irresponsible things happened. After seeing these kind of incident, every citizen of India must aware about the facility of security is available in the banks. If then, this can help the citizen to keep their transaction without any problem in secured way.
