Mangalore: ‘Sandesha Award-2009’ Conferred on Eight Eminent Personalities

Eight eminent personalities were presented the ‘Sandesha Award- 2009’ in recognition of their contributions to various fields, on Sunday February 8.
 
The awards were presented by the chief guest Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza in a function organized by the Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education. Dr G S Amoora, Fr Prasanth Madtha, Manu Iddya, Master Hirannayya, Vishnu Naik, Harini S Rao, Mandya Ramesh, and K K Pejavar, were the awardees.
 
The Little Sisters of the Poor, Mysore, has also been presented with a Sandesha Special Recognition Award. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each, a trophy, a citation, and a certificate.
 


Addressing the gathering, Bishop Henry D’Souza said that achievement is not an easy task. It requires yeoman service to pass through all the hurdles. “Achievers have to consider the interest of the society and public en route to success. It is their bounden duty to make others also achievers”, he said.
 
He pointed out that India is not meant for any particular community. People should speak about diversity of the nation. Democracy and secularism should be taken to the doorstep of laymen, he added.
 
Asking for protection of human dignity in the country, the Bishop said that the environment of peace had been polluted by hatred and violence. Every citizen should raise his voice against such acts, he said.

Delivering the felicitation address, the guest of honour Prof B M Hegde lamented over the lobbying that goes on in prestigious prizes included Padmashree and Noble.
 
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Fr Valerian Mendonca, Dr Na D’Souza, Leo D’Souza, P M Castelino, Galdin D’Souza, and Roy Castelino, were also present on the occasion.
