Bangalore: Pink Chaddis for Mutalik on Valentine’s Day

Bangalore: Pink Chaddis for Mutalik on Valentine’s Day

Times of India

BANGALORE, Feb 10: This Valentine’s Day, in a move that is meant to leave Pramod Mutalik and his ilk red-faced, a campaign is on to gift them with carton loads of pink chaddis!

A “consortium of pub-going, loose and forward women”, still seething under Pramod Mutalik’s moral policing and hectoring, will collect chaddis from across the country and courier them to the Sri Rama Sena’s Bangalore office by V-Day. This is the revenge of the urban woman, ‘pink undergarment’ her symbol of annoyance.

The ‘Pink Chaddi Campaign’ was kicked off on Febraury 5 to protest the Sena’s warning against celebrating Valentine’s Day and the attacks on women in Mangalore. Though it started off in the e-world among members of a social networking group, it has now taken a life of its own and is out on the streets.

Nisha Susan, a features writer with a magazine, started this blog with the idea that it could be a forum where people could express their concern and views — particulary the disgust they feel over the recent turn of events. “On Thursday, I had an impulse that we should do something. I planned this campaign and posted it on the blog. The next morning, there were more than 600 posts and now there are over 1,500 posts from all over the world, including small towns, the US, Singapore and of course, all Indian metros. There are people from all age groups, six-year-olds to senior citizens and a lot of men too,” said Nisha.

People have signed up to drop chaddis at collection points in their cities, which will be sent to Bangalore. Those who have signed up also plan to go to pubs with their partners or friends on V-Day. Most of the members don’t drink and some haven’t ever visited a pub, but the spirit is to band together against moral policing and curbs on women’s freedom.

“We are concerned that talking about them would give them unnecessary mileage, but at the same time, we can’t keep quiet. If we ignore them, some other group will also start these political manoeuvres. They are not fools. They are political manipulators and we should give them what they deserve,” added Nisha.

The group has been aptly named ‘the consortium of pubgoing, loose and forward women’ because that is how Sene wants to project them. The campaigners do not specify if the undergarment should be new, but people interested can drop ‘pink chaddis’ at the collection box.

As the election is nearing, we need to choose the right leaders who will not allow incidents like mumbai attacks, cowardly reply to Pak based terrorism, daily killings of police in notheast and govertment doing nothing to prevent it, jungle raj in bihar, pub attack etc. so my dear friends let us rise above all these differences and prevent these corrupt, foxy politicians from taking us for a ride and dumping us after election.

Hmmmm ....pink chadis...how apt. It serves them right. Next time we should retaliate differently. Tit for tat is a better option.I wonder if that man is morally upright for him and his ilk to dictate terms to us. Happy valentine's day everyone...spread the love an message of brotherhood this valentine. Can anyone pls tell that man (he doesn't even deserve a mention) that valentine's day is not only meant for lovers. Sigh ...facts are so important. In this case the man practises the following "ignorance is bliss"

What Indian Culture is Mr. Promod talking about???? Beating up Indian women has never been a part of Indian culture and will never be.. Look at a wholistic picture and please use your time and energy in abating the current economic crisis and helping unemployed men/women to get jobs rather than beating them up in braod day light. A coward act that it was, please start beating up all who cut cakes on all kinds of occassions, coz, I guess, that too isn't anywhere in the Indian culture. Shame on ur Mr Muthanlik!! Shame!

Mr. Shenoy, You require to strongly condemn instances like the PUB ATTACK and the people responsible for these ROWDY acts. Let us agree that drinking was part of the Hindu culture and strongly supported by all the advisors in Kings “Royal DarBAR”. Today it is at the pubs as the Royal Families do not have their darBARS anymore. Let’s get together in condemning such stupid incidents and not forget the “Vision of 2020” as you quote in your Daiji article.

To sit on a pedestial of pretentious self-righteousness and judge other people to be as "loose-moralled" is asking for trouble. To top that, the behaviour of the Rama Sene louts is contradictory to the 'Hindu' culture they claim to be protecting. They're just a buch of thugs using the 'Hindu' culture tag to carry on business as usual. Unfortunately, the tag seems to get them the all political sponsorship they need. That's the truth. Dear Mr Shenoy your well intentioned remarks are well taken and appreciated. However, please note that this is not a fight for religion, but against fascism in its worst form. If we keep our eyes closed and ignore what is happening, then these incidents will only increase and reach a point of no return. Therefore it is necessary to stamp out this rot from amongst us before it grows and devours all of us. There is nothing wrong in exposing evil and worry about bringing a bad name to our dear Mangalore. It is because we love our city which was always peaceful where all of us lived in harmony, we are so agitated today.

A few people who are being instigated by outsiders in the name of culture and religion have destroyed our peace and our happiness. We need to expose them and fight them tooth and nail. All Mangaloreans in particular and the world in general will appreciate our efforts in getting rid of this cancer from our midst. Therefore we need to raise our voices, publicize, shame and ridicule these anti socials in every forum and every platform. These ladies should be encouraged and their efforts encouraged, so that no Mutalik or his henchmen can find a safe place amongst us. Enough is enough.

Dear Daiji users, As all of you know, Off late Mangalore in news for bad reasons unfortunately at national level. Please note any bad names for particular place will affect all the people living there in one way or the other. No matter which religion! So let us not make fun of things as we are also contributor for the healthy society. Let us not run away from our responsibilities. There could be very small percentage of bad elements. It is there in every country, society, religion, caste. But let us not over play the incidents. I am only saying media should have unbiased opinions. Else entire trust factors/credibility would be lost. Please note India is very diversified. Though large proportions are Hindus(More than 80 crores) still all people live together by and large peacefully. There could be few incidents happening whoever is at fault for various reasons. I am deeply worried about all these. My sincere request to daiji to continue focus on good things happening around us (which you are doing anyways).

We badly need that now. I would even wish some good news on Mangalore to hit national headlines through daijiworld. Let that bring all the hearts together irrespective of religion. Let us work as true Indians and make Kalam’s dream of India being developed country by 2020 a reality. Don’t forget Your Hindu brothers and sisters were with you all these days and will continue to be with you. Let us not spread hatred. Let us live together. Let us collectively fight against bad elements in society irrespective of the religion they belong. Having said so as we are condemning few incidents happened in Mangalore, I hope we will condemn other incidents like terrorists attacks, bomb blasts..etc..etc with same spirit keeping religion aside. Healthy society possible only if we are not biased against our religious beliefs. Thanks.

Dear Daijiworld, Let us know Muthalik's reaction after the receipt of Pink Chaddis. I'm sure he wont need to buy chaddis ever for the rest of his life. Everytime he tries to do something ugly he will receive chaddis specially from women irrespective of whether it is Valentine's day or not. Dont forget to give us his home address.

Sri Rama is venerated as maryadapurusha by our hindu brothers He has to destroy this RAWANA SENA disguising as Rama sena spoiling his name and tearing apart our communal harmony at mangalore.Let us unite together to contain this GINI released by these goons

I propose that instead of pink, why not orange chaddies which will match the piece of cloth they tie around their necks. Just like Gotham city has Batman to protect them from evil, Mangalore city and its citizens will have a new super hero (Muthalik) in Orange chaddies for protection.

Ever since I visited India a few years ago, I have been following very closely the events in India. Recently, the attack on women in Mangalore caught my attention as Mangalore, then, looked like a peaceful place to me. I have read enough about this guy Mutalick. Sounds a sick man to me.

I dont Agree to this type of a protest or campaign. What this will do is make Ram Sene guys more angry & retaliate.. this is not the game of doing tit for tat etc.. As citizens of this country we should show restraint.. as we are blaming Ram Sene.. we should not get induldged in something which kicks of hatred & angry behaviour...

When BJP (NDA) was in power at the Center, Shiv Sena bjp were ruling Maharastra. During the period considerable debates in the media were shown and finally the bjp and hardliners provided green signal to those who are willing can celebrate. But this Muthalik perhaps did not read the history. V. Day Lovers have done a good job.
