New Delhi, Mar 3: Jammat-e-Islami is a religious and socio-political organization, established back in 1945 with the name of Jammat-e-Islami Hind during the time of Independence movement in Jammu and Kashmir has been banned by the Centre stating that it has been found having touch with the militant outfits.

This order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs when among the people that were arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the light of Pulwama attack; the chief of Jammat-e-Islamia was also found. The Ministry claimed that the people who were arrested were intended to disrupt the integrity and security of India.

The organization was separated in 1953 from its original organisation due to the differences that arose in the ideologies of politics. After the official statement passed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, a Valley-wide breakdown was observed on Saturday on the organisation. Many houses and offices of the leaders and workers associated with the organisation were closed and sealed by the police across various places in Kashmir.

The PM, Narendra Modi on Thursday called for a high-level meeting and discussed the security and integrity of India, after which the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi declared Jammat-e-Islami as the unlawful organisation and put a ban on the party for a duration of whole five years. This duration may exceed even after five years or the organisation after proper investigation may have to face a permanent ban also.

Last few days have been tough for the citizens of India and after some investigation; more than 150 people associated with the organization have been caught. They were found to have a close relationship with the terror groups and hence, under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Home Ministry has taken action against the Party.

It has been strongly said by the Government that if any action is found suspicious by the Police or the Intelligence, against any individual or a party, stringent action would be taken quickly. Opposing the ban, many people protested in Srinagar.

Assets of the leaders and workers of the organization which was estimated to be worth Rs 52 crore found in 20 places have been sealed across Jammu and Kashmir. Further investigation is taking place but the protestors have made the task bit difficult.

The organization was founded to bring awareness to people about Islam. It also worked in different fields of education and took important decisions on issues through the consensus.
