Mangaluru, Mar 4: The foundation stone will be laid for fishing jetty at Kulai and several road development works under Sagarmala and Bharathmala project on March 5 at Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary hall, New Mangalore port Panumbur, informed Member of Parliament (MP) Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Addressing media here on Monday, March 5, Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "The foundation stone will be laid by Nitin Gadkari, union minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping through video conference. Foundation stone will be laid for construction of Mangaluru bypass (linking towns Mulky - Kinnigoli - Kateel - Bajpe - Kaikamba - Polali - Addur - Kalpane - BC Road - Melkar - Konaje - Thokkotu) of NH 66 covering a distance of 91.20 km with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore, four-lane of Sannur junction to Bikarnakatte section of NH 169 covering a distance of 45.01 km with an investment of Rs 1,163 crore, and construction of new six lane major bridge across Phalguni river at Kulur Mangaluru costing Rs 65 crore.

"Along with this, foundation stone will be laid for new fishing jetty at Kulai worth Rs 196 crore. As it comes under NMPT, they will put a share of 45 per cent. The state government will invest 5 per cent and the central government will invest 50 per cent share. NMPT will handle the maintenance of the new jetty which can accommodate up to 350 boats.

“Regarding the development works of Kulshekar - Karkala four lane road, DPR has been completed, land acquisition process in on and the work will be soon undertaken. B C Road - Punjalkatte road development worth Rs 98 crore, and Gurupur bridge worth Rs 39.42 crore has also been undertaken which will be completed by next year.

"Asphalting of Kulshekar - Karkala stretch worth Rs 12 crore, Punjalkatte - Charmadi stretch worth Rs 10 crore, and Surathkal - BC Road worth Rs 22 crore will also be done.

"As elections are round the corner, I believe that in my 10 year tenure, I have worked sincerely and brought funds for the purpose of development works in the district without any kind of politics. We have got administrative proposal for four projects such as Plastic Park, Coast Guard training centre, central school at NITK and Coconut Park at Bantwal. Along with these, three projects have been proposed which includes an IT Park at Konaje. Focusing on the parts of Puttur, Sullia and Beltangady special agricultural zone (SAZ) will be formed and also a railway zone will be formed,” he said.

NHAI project director Samson Vijay Kumar, engineer Ajith, Amrutha and others were present.
