Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Rivaba joins BJP in Gujarat

Jamnagar, Mar 4 (Agency) : Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of Gujarat Agriculture Minister R C Faldu and MP Poonam Madam at Jamnagar in Gujarat. Her decision to join the ruling BJP comes just months before the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leaders presented her with a saffron scarf while welcoming her to the party.

In October last year, Raviba had joined the right-wing Rajput outfit called Karni Sena, which had come into the
limelight after launching massive protests against Deepika Padukone-starrer 'Padmaavat' in 2018. She was made the head of the women's wing of Karni Sena in Gujarat.

Addressing a press conference after her induction into Karni Sena, Rivaba had said, “My first goal would be to empower women to the level that they can fend for themselves, take care of themselves and defend themselves when men are not around and fight off any threats from perverted minds. This is my prime goal as I have personally been through such an experience." She was apparently referring to the incident when she was purportedly slapped by a police constable after her car hit his bike in Jamnagar in May last year.

At the time, Rivaba had remained elusive about her plans to join electoral politics. Speaking at the press meet last year, she had said, "I can’t say anything with certainty at this stage. I wold like to make contribution in the capacity for which my community has selected me. You may call this a beginning. I have lots of good plans for our community and our country in coming days. Presently, my focus is social service."
