Mysuru, Mar 4: In an act that is rare to find in today’s world of religious fanaticism, a Muslim man has displayed highest level of tolerance and love for the other community and built a Lord Ganesha temple from a part of the proceeds he received during his retirement.

Rehman is the person who has built this temple on Chamrajnagar-Sathyamangala road. In addition, he has agreed to bear the cost of the special pooja at the temple for the first 48 days.

This temple, which is located near the Chikkahole reservoir at the border of Karnataka and Tamilnadu, was built a decade ago by the Irrigation department. However, the idol of Lord Ganesha was stolen twice by the miscreants.

Rehman, who used to work as a guard of the reservoir, says that Lord Ganesha appeared in his dreams and asked him to install an idol of him. So Rehman convinced the officers of the reservoir to build a temple at the entrance of the reservoir and then with the help of the public built the temple in three months.

The senior officers of the reservoir, who have lauded the act of Rehman, have also given financial assistance for the installation of the idols of Lord Ganesha as well the nine idols (Navagraha). Rehman and his family members attend the special pooja rituals that take place in the early morning hours every day.

“I do not know about others. All the religions teach humanity, love and compassion,” says a humble Rehman. The temple is opened on Monday, Friday and on days of festivities. The temple is closed on other days citing the security of the reservoir.

Rehman, who is in charge of the gate of the reservoir, expresses his gratitude to all those who have helped in building the temple. He says, “I believe in brotherhood. I have got love which surpasses the limits of religion and caste. I am extremely happy after the temple is built. As the temple is built near the security cabin, there is no chance for the miscreants to steal idol or any other item from the temple.”
