New Delhi: JD-S, Congress keen to win maximum seats - H D Kumaraswamy

New Delhi, Mar 9 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that the focus of alliance between the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and the Congress is to "win the maximum number of seats" in the next Lok Sabha elections, amid indications that the party may climb down from 10 seats it is keen to contest in the state.

The Chief Minister is expected to meet Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday or Sunday to arrive at a final understanding on the seats.

JD-S chief and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda had met Gandhi on Wednesday and said that the party wants to contest 10 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.

"Several points about seat sharing were discussed. We wanted 12 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, now we have come down to 10 seats," he had said.

In the 2014 election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won 17, Congress nine and the JD-S two of the 28 seats in the state.

The seat sharing agreement is always critical for any party. But JD(S)-Congress alliance this need to priorities due to the fast approaching Lok Sabha election.
Any time lapse is difficult to recover. So Congress should give up its big brother attitude and have a common goal of defeating BJP in all respect.
For Congress recently held Madhya Pradesh assembly elections should be the lessons. If a party has forged an alliance with BSP today it would be the commanding position of 150 seats.
Both parties should focus on fielding tough candidates to challenge the BJP's winning candidate.

We Kannadigas don't want 'Operation Kamala'. We need a progressive state where all the citizens are equally treated without caste, creed or race.

I agree with your comment that combined share is higher than bop but just is stronghold is south Karnataka they are nowhere in the picture in north and coastal Karnataka, you are right congress wants to fight 80 seats in up, but read the recent statement of akilesh there is a understanding with congress and two seats will be given to congress. You should understand in up congress is not party to reckon with, only sp bsp combine have a chance.

Actually anyone can dream big, like someone commented there is no GST on dreaming as yet.
But factually, there are lot of contradictions. Kummy's party for one Appa Maga Party has not gone beyond Hassan - Mandya circuit. Even Bengaluru Rural which was once represented by Kummy himself, has been lost to Congress for last three elections. Also Do not underestimate the hurt BJP in these seats.
