First Hindu female lawmaker chairs Pakistan Senate on Women's Day

Islamabad, Mar 9 (IANS): The first-ever Thari Hindu woman to be elected to Pakistan's Senate, Krishna Kumari Kohli chaired the session of the Upper House on occasion of International Women's Day.

"Chairman Senate of Pakistan decided to make our colleague Krishna Kumari Kohli aka Kishoo Bai to Chair the Senate for today on Women's Day," Senator Faisal Javed tweeted on Friday.

The Pakistan Peoples Party leader is the first-ever senator from a scheduled caste, Geo news reported.

The 39-year-old hails from Nagarparkar, a village in Tharparkar where women are to date deprived of basic facilities.

International Women's Day is observed across the world on March 8.

In Pakistan, the Aurat March 2019 is set to take place in all major cities to coincide with and commemorate the International Women's Day.

If there is determination, they can struggle and achieve what they want. If there is somebody calling you with open arms saying you are tortured at your place, obviously India will have exodus of Hindus, seeking citizenship.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, with strong determination but unfortunately in a country like Pakistan the door of achievement is closed to them. This Senator's case is just an eyewash, 1 in a million. Have you heard the case of Asia Bibi and hundreds like her?
