Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 9: Jamsheena (28) from Atrady had filed complaint in Manipal police station, accusing her husband and other family members of her in-laws family of physically torturing her. Her husband, Mohammed Sharif from Karamballi, in the meantime, tried to end his life. He stands admitted into a hospital.

After Jamsheena married Mohammed Sharif during January, 2013, the couple lived at Karamballi. It is said that her husband had sold off the gold ornaments given to him during the marriage in the form of dowry and spent the proceeds to buy a lorry transporting fish. The complainant has said that her husband has been pestering her to bring more money from her parents since her marriage.

Reportedly, Mohammed Sharif has succeeded in making Jamsheena's parents to part with six lac rupees so far. Jamsheena's mother-in-law has raised loans running into lacs of rupees from finance companies and cooperative societies at Udupi. "During the fag end of 2017, my husband forcibly obtained my signatures on a number of cheque leaves of Vijaya Bank. I went to the bank, and gathered that three of these cheques issued to different people had been returned unpaid for want of funds. In December 2018, ,my husband and his family members drove me out of the family home. I started to live in a rented house at Atrady. My husband even came there and attacked me. Since I married him, my husband, his mother, and father, Moosa Abdul Khader, have been inflicting physical torture to me," she stated in her complaint.

So far no suicide attempt case has been registered relating to this incident.

why girls parents gave so much of dowry and gold in first place?
isn't it made the person greedy to ask for more?
when everything is not going well as they desired, all these starts happening. and the people like us without even knowing stories from both the side, starts giving judgment.

Mohammad, no parents will give dowry unless and otherwise boy insists upon it. Supposedly if they have given also once during the marriage of their daughters, husband should not send his wife to her parents house by force to get more and more gold. From where the parents accumulate gold and money ?Finally for the happiness of their daughter they have to knock at the doors of the financiers or approach the banks for loans. Those who comment here are not ignorant of the issues. After knowing the facts only they comment. If you can't swallow then just stay calm and don't be in favour of injustice. Don't accuse the parents.. You read properly how this Mohammad was blackmailing his wife with the help of the cheques??

Yes, it is said, "do not take sides without seeing both sides." But, one need not see other side in this case, because, see what she said "Since I married him, my husband, his mother, and father, Moosa Abdul Khader, have been inflicting physical torture to me," she stated in her complaint. Shame on such a husband and his parents.

I think every man and woman who wants to get married should be oriented or made compulsory to attend marriage preparation course, where everything related to family life, family budget, laws related to marriage are explained. Yes, many men think that they are masters, but, it is not, they are partners. The women should get good education and until they are not able to stand on their own, things will continue. Gone are the dark days for women, slowly, I find the present day women are fighting back, which is definitely needed.

@ Christine, Mangalore and Cynthia Kirem,

My cousin brother did love marriage and after the marriage the inlaws harassed the husband (My cousin) by filing false dowry with the help of influence and money power and the false statement/rumors of the neighbor.

I cant trust women. Before marriage honey trap. After marriage blackmail. Anything is possible for money. I have become disgusted by the screaming and shouting of women.

Glen, I feel that's not the true love..if really they loved each other truly and faithfully such issues would not have arisen. May be your cousin is innocent but it's really a very sad development in love marriage. What you experienced in your life made you to loose trust on women vice versa some incidents in women's lives too make women loose trust and faith in men. These are the two sides of one coin. Majority women suffer with their partners.

It is okay for some people, their wives keep quiet when abandoned. But, today, it is not like that. A woman who goes to police station, knows or finds out her rights from women help cells.. She can go for divorce, ask support, alimony & maintenance, desertion complaint and alienation of affection law suit.
Do not think all are Jashodabens.

If you are still unmarried, wait until your girlfriend turns 40 to tie the knot.

There will be a lot of peace. No police, no lawyers, no courts (at least before getting married).

Apparently for the culprit is the court, or the law that you may be saying that it favours women. Surprising that you find no fault with the man here but the woman for she placed her plea with the court.
