Mangaluru, Mar 10: The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing of Father Muller College of Nursing in collaboration with Lions Club Mangaluru and Sri Narayana Guru Seva Sangha observed International Women’s Day with theme 'Healthy Women Happy Family' here on Sunday, March 10 at Sri Narayana Guru Seva Sangha, Mary Hill.

Speaking on the occasion, Centre for Development Studies and Education director Rita Noronha said, "Today women are the victim of harassment and we do not get respect equal to men. We have been suppressed and do not get the rights which we need to get. The mindset of men and women and discrimination has to be changed and an atmosphere should be created to respect women.”

Father Muller Charitable Institution director Fr Richard Coelho said, "We should follow the message of Narayana Guru of respecting everyone without any discrimination. Women should get equal rights in the society and need to be respected. Today we are also conducting a free health check up and I wish everyone a happy Women's day.”

Agriculturist Philomena was felicitated on the occasion. A free health check up was also conducted.

Organising chairperson Pramila D’Souza welcomed the gathering and organising secretary Precilla D’Silva rendered the vote of thanks.

Father Muller College of Nursing principal Jacintha D’Souza, Lions Club Mangaluru president Vijay Vishnu Mayya, Sri Narayana Guru Seva Sangha president Ganesh A Bangera and others were present.

Congratulations to all Women Nurses as you celebrate WOMEN'S DAY. I am proud of Father Muller College of Nursing as you are building a bright future for women who are in the nursing profession. Even my wife is a Registered nurse in New York but now she is retired like me who also worked for a government hospital for 30 long years. We thank God for giving the strength and courage to help in bringing our daughter and son to this time.
