Bengaluru, Mar 10: The city police on Saturday, March 9, arrested Raja alias Cat Raja, who is one of the main accused in the murder of rowdy sheeter Lakshmana, who was brutally killed recently.
Raja tried to escape from the police, when they were taking him to the Karim Saheb Layout in Rajagopalanagar in the city in order to recover the weapon used for the murder as well the blood-stained clothes which he threw in the vicinity after the murder. The police had to shoot and injure Raja to prevent him from escaping.
Lakshmana
The police sources said that, in addition to Raja, they have taken into custody more than 10 others, which includes noted rowdy Rupesh and his accomplice Hemanth also.
The police informers (Khabri) gave the clues about the gang that carried out the murder of Lakshmana to the police. Based on definite information, police zeroed in on the rival gang with whom Lakshmana had fought when he was lodged in Parappana Agrahara prison in the city. In addition, police also came to know that Raja had a major role to play in the murder.
Raja was traced to Gudibande in Chikkaballapur district, the native place of his wife, where he had been hiding after committing the murder. He was taken into custody on the evening of Friday, March 8 and brought to the city.
Assault on police
The Mahalakshmi Layout police of the city, headed by police inspector Prashant, were escorting Raja to Karim Saheb Layout near Doddanna estate in Peenya second stage in the city as Raja had confessed that he has thrown his clothes as well as the murder weapon at the estate.
The murder accused Raja picked a stone and assaulted Chowdegowda and Anantha, the two constables who were escorting him, when the police and accused were about to reach the said estate. Inspector Prashant, who was accompanying the constables shot fires in the air and ordered Raja not to attack the constables. However, the rowdy
sheeter did not budge and continued to beat the constables. Inspector Prashant had not other options left and shot the rowdy at his legs and made him collapse.
The injured constables and the murder accused were taken to the hospital. The Rajagopalnagar police have registered a case of criminal assault on a public servant and bid to escape from police custody on Raja. However, the clothes and murder weapon are not yet recovered by the police.
