Mangaluru, Mar 11: Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) member secretary Hanchate Sanjeev Kumar inaugurated sensitization programme, promoting effective implementation of the 'Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act 2007' in Karnataka here at Zilla Panchayat on Monday, March 11.

This programme was organised by National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), Karnataka State Resource Centre for Senior Citizen and supported by National Institute of Social Defence.

“In order to dispose cases of senior citizens, there is a plan to initiate separate Lok Adalat. We need to address the problems faced by senior citizens very quickly, so plan has been made to form separate Lok Adalat to settle the cases of senior citizens and there is possibility it may start from April,” said Hanchate Sanjeev Kumar.

"Officials should ensure on having a separate ward for the senior citizens at the hospitals and hence provide medical services without any hassles,” Kumar added.

IGP western range Arun Chakravarthy said," The senior citizen harassment cases are on a rise. The police department needs to prioritize on addressing the problems faced by senior citizens.”

District Principal and Sessions Court judge Kadloor Sathyanarayanacharya, Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Selvamani R, Police commissioner Sandeep Patil, Nimhans Psychiatric Social Work Department HOD Dr A Thirumurthy among others were present.
