Kundapur, Mar 11: Sayyed, a man of Kerala origin, who was found chained to a tree on Saturday, March 9 near Kirimanjeshwara national highway of the taluk, is handed over to his family members by the Byndoor police on the evening of Sunday, March 10.

It is unearthed now that Sayyed had chained himself in order to gain popularity on social media. According to his family, he has done this two or three times in the past also in Kerala.

Earlier it was thought that Sayyed is chained to the tree by locals as he has troubled the locals. However, when Sayyed was taken to the Byndoor police station and inquired in the Malayalam language, they were surprised by what Sayyed disclosed to them.

Sayyed, during the inquiry, smilingly said, "I only had put the chain around my legs and locked it. I threw the key of the lock. By doing so, police will come and take me to station. Also my photo will appear in newspaper and TV. I have done this two or three times in the past also. Once I have done the same in Kannur in Kerala also."

It might be recalled that the station officer Timmesh and personnel of the Byndoor police station had tried to unchain Sayyed who was found in a chained condition on Saturday. However, as they could not free him because of the lock that was put to the chain, they cut the tree and took Sayyed along with the block of tree to a nearby workshop and freed him.

When Sayyed, who was speaking Malayalam language, was interrogated by the station officer of Byndoor, Timmesh, it was unearthed that he is a native of Calicut in the state of Kerala. Byndoor police had sought the help of Kerala police as Sayyed is a native of Kerala.
