Mangalore: Rs 16 lakh Grant for Byari Sahitya Academy

Mangalore, Feb 17: SH Shivarudrappa, the Registrar of the newly formed Karnataka Byari Sahitya Academy said on Tuesday February 17 that the state government has granted Rs 16 lakh to the Academy for the year 2008-09 and it has already received a sanction order for Rs 8 lakhs.
He was speaking after the installation of the president and committee members of the Academy at the Tulu Sahitya Academy building here. He also added that the Academy would get separate building soon.
Addressing the gathering after taking over charge of the Academy, president MB Abdul Rahman said that the Academy is an outcome of constant struggle of eleven years. Expressing his gratitude to the state government he added the forum would help to enhance the Byari literature.
Support to Byari literature, collection and publication of Byari folklore which is on the verge of extinction, state-level Byari folklore festival, rejuvenation of Byari folklore song and dance such as Moilanji pat, oppane pat, unjal pat, Kolkali, Byari theatre, workshop on Byari literature are some of the plans of the Academy, he claimed.
Rahman said that establishing a state-level Byari Writers Union is his one of the dreams. He also recalled the services of Byari stalwarts like BM Idinabba, BA Moidin, Ummar TK and others who took painstaking efforts in the formation of the Academy.
Harikrishna Punaroor, K Narayana Kharvi, Pradip Kumar Kalkura, Sara Aboobacker were the chief guests. Many members of the academy were also present. Dr Palthadi Rama Krishna Achar presided over the function.
