Goa floor test on Wednesday, Governor summons Assembly

Panaji, Mar 19 (IANS): Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has summoned the Assembly to meet on Wednesday morning, making way for newly-appointed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to prove his legislative majority in a floor test.

"Governor Mridula Sinha has summoned the Legislative Assembly to meet at 11.30 a.m.," an official statement said on Tuesday.

Sawant, who was sworn in as Goa's 11th Chief Minister, has said that his coalition government would pass the floor test "one hundred per cent".

"I am confident we will win the test," Sawant said earlier in the day.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition comprises 12 BJP MLAs, three MLAs each from Goa Forward and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party as well as two independent MLAs.

The Congress has 14 MLAs in the 36-member Assembly. One remaining independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar was seen in both the BJP as well as Congress camps on Monday and has not clarified as to whether he supports the treasury or opposition benches.

From Goa to Manipur, Modi's Governors Have Sabotaged Democracy.
Modi wants to conquer India by hook or by crook. His governors are his co-conspirators. He has put the constitution on a slippery slope.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks of himself as the king-emperor of India. He wants to capture all the states, by fair means or foul. His claim on the electorate is supposedly his ‘charisma’, and his oratorical and organizational ability to capture crowds.
Governor Mridula Sinha carried another ‘deliberate murder of democracy.’ The midnight act to oust CBI Director to appoint Chief Minister of Goa, BJP serving democracy of the nation like 'Night club' parties.
“Why is BJP doing oath-taking ceremony in Goa at 2 am? Why is media silent?”. “At 2 am oath ceremony, Pramod Sawant takes over as Goa Chief Minister What a mockery of democracy. Midnight stealth attack on democracy. Democracy is openness & transparency, not to be practiced in the dark at midnight.”

When PM Modi became prime minister in 2014, Modi changed virtually 26 governors and 7 lieutenant-governors.
The governors under the Government of India Act 1935 were by the Raj, of the Raj, and for the Raj.
But these RSS leaned Governors serve for were by the Modi, of the Modi, and for the RSS Raj.

There is no need to do any floor test. Everyone knows that BJP will get support of smaller parties and independent legislators.
For independents and small party MLAs, the only difference between Congress and BJP is the amount of money.
Whoever is willing to give more, they will support that party. And at present we clearly know which party has more money and power.

When BJP got majority votes in Karnataka congress gave a fair chance and time to BJP to form a coalition govt but BJP failed to form the govt. So, here in Goa BJP should have acted in similar democratic manner for congress to form a govt as they were in majority courtesy of RSS governor. But BJP exploited the opportunity at its first available moment and by the blessing of its governor.
