Mangalore, March 1: Shabeer, suspected in terror links was brought to city by Ullal police on Sunday, March 1, following a body warrant issued by the local court. The court gave the order so the investigating team could further interrogate him on the terrorist links.
The Ullal police produced him at the judge’s residence in Bondel, as it was a holiday for the courts. First Class Judicial Magistrate 3rd Judge Bringesh, ordered the police to produce him on Monday before the court. He remanded him to judicial custody for a day.
Shabeer, was lodged in Yerawada jail in Pune, after he was arrested by the Anti Terror Squad(ATS). He is resident of Bhatkal. The ATS had arrested him on terror links relating to the serial blasts that took place in major cities of the country.
Police sources said that, Shabeer has had links with Riyaz Bhatkal, who is believed to have played a major role in striking terror in various parts of India. It is also learnt that Riyaz often visited Ullal, when Shabeer was a religious teacher in Ullal area.
It may be recalled that in October, 2008, the district police arrested two persons in Ullal, alleged to have links with terror networks. The police said that the arrested persons gave them crucial leads that confirmed the involvement of Shabeer and Riyaz Bhatkal.
Ullal Sub-inspector Shivaprakash said, “the Judicial magistrate granted a body warrant to Ullal Police following a request last week. We will interrogate him and investigate the matter further.” he said.
