Udupi: International Fest ‘Article-19’ Concludes at Manipal

Udupi, Mar 2: The Valedictory Session of Article-19, a three day International Communication fest of Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) organized by students of MIC, began as per schedule at 7 pm, at the MIC premises here on Saturday Feb 28.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest T Ranga Pai, deputy registrar, Manipal University stressing on the significance of communication in today’s turbulent times declared “The world is undergoing (great) turmoil these days. Price rise, communicable diseases, water and electricity shortage and fraud and scams: all are making the life of a common man miserable. In such a situation, communication can play a vital role in providing social equality and justice to all.”

Another distinguished speaker on the occasion, vice chancellor of MU Dr Rajshekharan Warrier in his speech advised the journalists and writers fraternity `... be honest while writing anything. A writer should feel and believe in what he writes.'

Former chairman, Prasar Bharati and director, MIC, Dr M V Kamath in his speech too cautioned the journalists not to sensationalize issues and be more responsible. He urged them to avoid publishing violent pictures.

“Express Awards” in various categories viz., Radio, Animation, Graphics, Journalism – Print & TV, Ad (Print), Ad (TV), Photography, Short Film and Documentary were given out to successful participants. More than 100 entries including 19 international entries from USA, England, Philippines, Egypt, Scotland, UAE and France were received for these popular awards. Prizes were distributed by Dr M V Kamath, Rajsekharan Warrier and Sankalp Meshram, famous film editor.

The winners comprising participants from various colleges in India and abroad in different categories are as follows: Pallavi Gupta (Sophia College, Mumbai), Mohammad Mufaz (Manipal University, Dubai), Nageen Mirza (Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi), Ajay Nair (Whistling Woods International, Mumbai), Supratim Nayak (ICAT, Chennai), Nirmal Harindran (SCMS, Cochin), Munira (K C College, Mumbai), Deepika Bhardwaj (IIJNM, Bangalore) and Claire Burgeiss (Birmingham University, UK) won the prizes for the best entries respectively in Ad (print), Ad(TV), Film Express, Animation Express, Graphic Express, Photography Express, Journalism (Print), Journalism (TV) and Radio Express categories. Nikhil Kumar of Bangalore was adjudged the best speaker for Manipal Media Student’s Convention 2009 which was also part of ‘Article 19’ this year.

Krishna Mariyanka, director-consultant Aikya Global and Sandhya Ravishankar, Broadcast journalist were also present at the valedictory ceremony. On the occasion various cultural programmes including dance and singing, were presented by the students of MIC, thoroughly entertaining the crowds present.

The vote of thanks was proposed by S Ramanathan student co-coordinator, who earlier on had also given the welcome speech.
