Udupi: Polali Sheenappa Hegde Award Conferred on Kodu Bhoja Shetty

Udupi, Mar 2: The presentation of the ‘Polali Sheenappa Hegde Awards–2008’ was held on Sunday March 1 at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College Ravindra Mantap here. The programme was organized in association with the Rashtra Kavi Govind Pai Research Centre, district Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Jnana Vikas women’s programme, MGM College, and Academy of General Education, Manipal.
Mangalore Tulu litterateur Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty inaugurated the programme on Sunday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Bola Chittaranjandas said that the new generation of Tulu linguists and writers should hold Polali Sheenappa Hegde in high esteem.
“The prevailing situation is such that we have accepted the world as a large well with lots to explore while Tulunadu history holds greater volumes to unravel. We only learn a little of Tulunadu history in our daily lives. Traditionalists ought to be bestowed the virtue of humanity that has been personified through Tulu ‘Padnanas’ (folk singing). If Tulu enthusiasts undertake study in this regard, Tulunadu scriptures will be preserved for generations to come”, he emphasized.
Veteran Tulu litterateur Yerya Laxminarayan Alva presided over the programme.
Polali Sheenappa Hegde award recipient Kodu Bhoja Shetty, S R Hegde, SKDRDP director ishwanat Shetty, project officer Dayasheela and MGM College principal Professor Jayaprakash Mavinakuli were present on the dais.
Various competitions on Tulu folk music, folklore, ‘Chennemane’ (Tulunadu’s distinct chess), ‘Rangoli’, and flower bouquet preparing, were held at the occasion.
Shashikala Suvarna welcomed the gathering while Amita Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
