Udupi: AICC member Amrith Shenoy files nomination as independent candidate

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (AM)

Udupi, Mar 26: All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Amrith Shenoy filed his nomination for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate on Tuesday, March 26.

Shenoy, an aspirant for the Congress ticket in the constituency was unhappy that the seat was offered to JD(S) despite the Congress having a better chance at winning here. Pramod Madhwaraj, the candidate of the Congress-JD(S) alliance had tried to pacify him, but even though he expressed happiness over Madhwaraj's candidature, Amrith Shenoy did not relent.

In a Facebook post Shenoy said, "I would have worked for the party if the ticket had been given to any of the members from Congress party. Even though many said that I was an aspirant for the ticket, I did not lobby for it. The Congress had a good opportunity as there was anti-Shobha wave in the constituency. The Congress had all possibility to win, but the high command took a bad decision. The JD(S) did not have a candidate. Why did they (JD(S)) want Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency at all if the ticket had to be given to Pramod Madhwaraj?

"I am not calling any Congress members to support me or come along with me. Anyone who is interested can come and join me. I will not withdraw my nomination. Once confirmed, I will start my campaign. I will not pass wrong comments against any of my opponents, nor will allow my supporters do the same,.

"I will let you know when I receive the symbol. Bless me," he said in his Facebook post.

A person who is not loyal to party, and has given reasons about contesting election which is not at all convincing, in what way he will be loyal as a representative to his constituency if elected.

I agree with Amrith. If JDS had no candidate then why take the seat and ask Congress candidate to contest under their party symbol? I'm sure if anyone does that then it will hurt people who have been working for a particular party at ground level. Same thing happened here as well with people like Amrith. Also Pramod travelling to Bangalore overnight and meeting JDS leaders and agreeing to contest under their party symbol leads to lot of questions. If at all he wanted to contest then he and other party members should have put pressure on party to release this seat to congress. Amrith was one of the aspirant of getting ticket but as he said, never lobbied for the same. We have seen him actively getting involved in party activities in various parts of coastal Karnataka and Chikkamagaluru whether their party was in power or opposition. Keeping those things in mind he is definately hurt and that has led him to take this decision. Amrith also has good fan following as he is identified as an matured guy knowing what politics is. Congress party should have managed this crisis in a better way but never looked like they were concerned about Udupi-Chikkamaggaluru constituency since their focus is on Hassan & Mandya !!!!

Haste leads to waste. Neither will he win nor will he even get close to a win, he will only ruin his chances of a better future in the party. Sometimes our egoes make us do such things and then whatever lil we had is lost too.

Waste of time , energetic and money power .
India should follow America’s electrol policy where only two parties Democrats and Republicans are in final fray.

India should allow maximum 4 parties in major elections and two parties in minor like both , panchayat, municipal Level election .

Wrong or right... Amrith Shenoy should have respected party's decision and supported Madhwaraj candidature. Shenoy himself says, Congress had good opportunity this time. Then, why is he spoiling it?

If Madhwaraj becomes MP, Shenoy has good opportunity of getting next MLA ticket from Udupi. Time to rethink Amritanna !

Good candidate but bad decision. Congress supporters will still support Pramod. His supporters may support him with few thousand votes but will end up hurting congress more than BJP. Ideally, he should've bargained with BJP and asked for MLA/MLC ticket. Congress was not in a position to give anything anyways( else he wouldn't have quit).
