The Muslim Lekhakara Sangha felicitated M B Abdul Rahaman, the new president of Beary Sahitya Academy, at Hidyath centre here on Friday March 6.
 
Palthady Ramakrishna Achar, president, Tulu Sahitya Academy, Eric Ozario, former president, Konkani Sahithya Academy, and Dr Mohammed Ismail, professor of medicine, KMC, Mangalore, felicitated Rahaman with a Beary cultural memento.
 


Speaking after the felicitation, Rahaman said the Beary Academy will work for the upliftment of Beary literature and culture. He added that the academy works within a  framework of its own responsibilities, rules, and regulations.
 
Achar said, “The Tuluvas of Tulunadu are soft in attitude and character, and the Beary people being from the same region are also similar. Their cultures have some similarities with some of the traditions and words in Tulu being derived from the Beary language and vice versa”.

He said that the culture of any language should flow like water and will not be recognized if this is stopped.

Umer U H, secretary, Muslim Lekakara Sangha, welcomed the gathering. Saeed Ismali, president, Muslim Lekakhara Sangha, presided over the function.
