M'lore: Judge Exhorts Women to Acquire Legal Knowledge to Combat Atrocities

Mangalore, Mar 9: Chief Judge of the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here, Shivalinge Gowda urged the women to strive to get at least minimum legal knowledge to be able to fight against the atrocities being heaped against the women. He was speaking after inaugurating the World Women's Day function held in the city on Sunday March 8.

"Both the union and the state governments have formulated a number of laws to stop exploitation of and atrocities on women. However, because of the faulty implementation and lack of public awareness have resulted in the laws not being fruitful to the extent expected of them," he rued.

District and Sessions Judge Hanchate Sanjeev Kumar presided.

On this occasion, district deputy director in the department of women and child welfare department Shakuntala A released a book on globalization and health problems of women, authored by Dr Rati Devi.

Lady Goschen Hospital medial superintendent Dr Shakuntala, president of Mahila Mandals Vijayalashmi Shetty, K A Rohini representing the union of Mahila Mandals, inspector Anasuya, social workers Anandi Teacher, Gracy Gonsalves, Dr Rukmini of the office of the district health officer and others were present.

Judges Bhrungesh and Vijaya K S took part as resource persons.
