Mangalore, Mar 9: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said on Monday March 9 that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the government at the centre with Lal Krishna Advani as the prime minister.
Addressing party workers after inaugurating the Lok Sabha election office of the party at Kodialbail, he claimed that the BJP is confident of winning 22 seats in the state. “We have announced a list of 20 MP candidates. The list of the rest of the candidates will be declared soon”, he said.
He said that the party will ask for votes on the basis of the achievements of the state government and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government as well as the failures of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Yeddyurappa accused the opposition party of being responsible for the failure of reforms in the state and said that they had been ruling the country in this manner since Independence.
“The works which have been approved by the government will begin by May instead of September. The BJP aims to make Karnataka a model state in the country. We have bought land in Chhattisgarh to establish a 2000MW thermal power project in order to solve the electricity problem in the state. The work will start in March”, he said.
Admitting that the heat of the global slump had also reached the state government, Yeddyurappa said that the treasury had seen a leakage of Rs 5000 crore due to recession. He said that despite this, the BJP government has not burdened the common man by imposing tax.
Yeddyurappa said that a lack of political interest is responsible for the slow pace of work.
MP D V Sadananda Gowda, MLA Yogish Bhat, Mallika Prasad, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Capt Ganesh Karnik, and Anwar Manippady were present on the occasion.
