Mangaluru: Subramanya and Puttur areas experience rainfall with thunder

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Subramanya, Kadaba, Sullia, Puttur, and surrounding areas received rain along with thunder, lightning and wind, on Friday evening. Hailstorm was experienced in some places. Sullia, Puttur and some nearby places experienced strong rain with for about half an hour. Some areas received rain for nearly two hours. 

Because of strong wind, many trees including areca nut, coconut and rubber trees fell to the ground in Subramanya and surrounding areas. Electricity supply too was disrupted in many areas. There are reports of telephone and cell phone services getting disrupted.

In some places, rainfall continued for nearly two hours. In Subramanya, road expansion work is in progress, and the water accumulated in the areas dug by the contractors created bottlenecks for vehicles to move about. Because of lack of proper drainage, water got accumulated and entered houses and some shops at Adisubrahmanya area. 

This was the heaviest rainfall and hailstorm in Subramanya during this summer. As huge trees got uprooted and fell across the road between Mardhala and Nettana, people going to Subramanya from Dharmasthala and Uppinangady faced problems.

Some rainfall was experienced in some parts of Shivamogga district on Friday with thunder and lightning. Places like Shikaripur, Sorab, Sagar, Hosanagar, Ripponpet etc got rains. Districts like Dharwad, Belagavi and a few places in Kalaburagi also received some rain with Sedam town in particular getting heavy rain. There was also some rain in Kasargod district.
