Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann holds 'Umalle' musical extravaganza

Mangaluru, Apr 9: "Mandd Sobhann has played a stellar role in attracting the young generation towards Konkani art and culture. It has also been providing them forum on a continuous basis to exhibit their latent talents. As a result, Mandd Sobhann has been holding its 208th monthly theatre programme. Konkani lovers should continue to extend support for this initiative so as to continue to hold it," said former legislator from Mangaluru (south) assembly constituency, J R Lobo.

He was speaking after taking part as chief guest at the 208th monthly theater programme held at Kalangann, Shakthinagar here on April 7. On this occasion, the lucky winner of the Adhar campaign undertaken for collection of funds for 'Mandd Sobhann' was decided through draw of lots. Nelson Pereira from Valencia (ticket No. 0561) won a car worth Rs 10 lac. Symbolically, key of the car was handed over to his wife, Evet Pereira.















































































Lobo released a Konkani rap song composed by youngsters Roshan, Sandeep, Johnson and Jeevan, who belong to Siddi community, titled 'Ye Chedya' in Mandd Sobhann YouTube channel.

Two audio tapes created by veteran Konkani musician, Apolinaris D'Souza titled 'Tujea Vinnyak' and 'Mai Ganva' was dedicated to the world by Eric and Joyce Ozario couple.

Well-known guitarist, Alwyn Fernandes initiated the monthly theatre by ringing the bell. Mandd Sobhann Gurkar, Eric Ozario, president, Louis Pinto, Fr John Fernandes, Roy Castelino, Aspin Perez, Richard Rodrigues, Helen Mascarenhas, Kishore Fernandes and Stany Alvares were present.

Later, a team of 25 young and seasoned singers presented musical extravaganza, 'Umalle' under the leadership of Joel Attur. The sari dance presented by Merwin Shirva of 'Bale Telipale' fame entertained the people. Music direction was provided by Rajendra - Rajesh duo.

Vittori Karkal compered the formal programme. Alwyn Danti presented the musical programme.
