Mangalore: Konkani Play ‘Ratnagiricho Sardar’ Enthrals Viewers at Kalaangann

Mangalore, Mar 15: Theatre enthusiasts gathered at Kalaangann to witness the gripping Konkani play ‘Ratnagiricho Sardar’ performed by Udenti Kalakaar, Cascia, on Sunday March 15.
The play, which was a winner at the recently held Daiji Dubai All India Konkani Drama Competition, is based on erstwhile Roman emperor Julius Caesar.
John M Permannur, playwright and director of the drama, was present on the dais during the stage programme which preceded the show. The stage programme was presided over by Narayan Kharvi, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar, ‘Mandd Sobhann’, welcomed the gathering. Ronnie Crasta, secretary, Mandd Sobhann, was present on the dais. Stany Alvares, vice-president, Mandd Sobhann, compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
The six-day drama festival has been organized by Mandd Sobhann, the Konkani cultural organization, in an effort to establish harmony in the region. So far, four plays—Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Konkani—have been staged.
The Beary play ‘Kunjali MBBS’ will be staged on Monday March 16 by Beary’s Melodies, Mangalore. The final drama will be ‘Mott’, in Kodava language, which will be staged on Tuesday March 17, by ‘Shristi Kodagu Ranga’, Ponnampet.
The dramas start at 6:30 pm and entry is free for all.
