Udupi, Mar 19:
The grand celebrations associated with ‘Siri Jatre’ worship began on Wednesday March 18 at Pangala and neighbouring villages in the coastal district.

The local ancient manuscripts give a detailed description of the glorious Siri Jatre which originates from the deep-rooted faith that the natives of Tulunadu have in the legendary Siri Kumar brothers who are said to be protecting the people of the coastal district.

Thousands of devotees arrive for Siri Jatre that will be held at ‘Abbagadaraga’ temples in Nandalike, Hiriadka, Kavattar, Bellibettu, Yermal, and Hejamady after being first held at the historic Pangala and Adi Halade temples near here.

Sri Jatre begins with the traditional worship of Sri Brahmalingeshwar, Brahmamandala, Naga and Siri Kumars.  Those devotees seeking favours from Siri Kumars flock to the temples here and pray for divine intercession.  Some of the devotees who seek to know the original worship shrine of their family are told of this by the oracle.

Devotees from all over the country and abroad arrive specially to attend these religious celebrations and be blessed by Siri Kumars.

‘Kanchila Seve’, an offering to the Siri Kumars at the temples across the district has a special significance during this festival.
