Mangalore, Mar 21: “We live in a time where man kills man.  He destroys all the resources of this nature for his selfish agenda. Despite these odds, many amongst us are peace lovers and we must respond positively to what is happening around us. It is a unique occasion where artistes and singers have come together to voice their response”, said Dr John Fernandes, professor and head, chair in Christianity, Mangalore University, on Saturday March 21.

He was speaking after inaugurating an exhibition of paintings on ‘Peace and Harmony’ at the Orchid Art Gallery.

Dr Fernandes inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the lamp along with veteran artist Peter Lewis, and William Pais, director, Orchid Art Gallery.

The paintings themed on peace and harmony were produced by different artists from Mangalore, and Udupi including world-renowned Jyothi Sahi at the art camp that was held recently at Kalaangann, Mangalore.

It was jointly organized by Orchid Art Gallery, chair in Christianity, Mangalore University, and ‘Mandd Sobhann’.

Vidyasri Udupi gave a live Carnatic vocal performance on the occasion.  Krishna Pawan accompanied her on ‘mridangam’ and Sharmila Rao on the violin.

Well done Mr. William Pais and collaborators. Commendable effort to show that peace is the need of the hour and it is possible to have peace when we make a choice of it. Keep up the good work and God bless.

Today’s youth should realise that violence, hatred & waste of precious time is not the need of the time but they should work hard for higher education, getting fulfilling employment/business & building peaceful home & family.
