Scrapped 1,500 laws in 5 years: Modi to traders

New Delhi, Apr 19 (IANS): In the middle of the ongoing general election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the NDA government scrapped over 1,500 laws in the last five years to ease business operations in the country.

Slamming the Congress, he said before his government came in, Congress-led governments insulted traders and that the business community had to face "laws of jungle and jungle of laws".

On the Goods and Services Tax (GST), he said the new tax regime brought in transparency and revenue of states increased by one-and-a-half times. The number of registered traders rose twice after GST was introduced, he said.

The government has been addressing traders' concerns with GST Council meeting every two months and reviewing the rates. As a result, most of the essential products are now in the zero tax slab, and around 98 per cent goods and services are below the 18 per cent slab, Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that as the country jumped 75 places to the 77th rank globally in terms of ease of doing business in the last five years, he aims to reach the 50th position in the next half decade.

PM Modi government scrapped 1,500 laws in 5 years but still continued 'Gabbar Singh Tax'.

To pull millions out of poverty, India’s GDP needs to grow faster than even 7%. For the quarter ended October-December 2018, the growth rate stood at 6.6% and any marked improvement has been ruled out in the ongoing financial quarter as well.

Jobless growth has always been an uncomfortable reality for the country’s masses and the situation has worsened of late. However, since India missed its industrial boom phase, jobless growth has been an uncomfortable reality for the country’s masses. The situation has worsened of late. According to a recent study, the latest Labour Bureau estimates show that there was an absolute decline in employment between 2013–14 and 2015–16, probably for the first time since Independence.
Almost five years later, was the Indian public sold a bill of goods? Modi’s record suggests that his lofty slogans in 2014 were part of a slick and sophisticated exercise in public relations, but no genuine conviction or plan of action lay behind it. Modi’s major tangible accomplishment is avoiding a big corruption scam of the type that hobbled his predecessor.

Modi has failed to reform India’s economy. Populist tricks are all he has left.

I am sure none of the traders would even know 1% of 1500 laws that PM Modi claiming to have scrapped.
So, very tall claim of scrapping of 1500 laws is a big entertainment story for them.
