New Delhi, Apr 27: Yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Munira Abdulla, an Emirati woman, proved the proverb when she woke up after 27 years of vegetative coma to call her son’s name.

60-year-old Munira Abdulla and her son Omar Webair encountered a terrifying car accident in the year 1991. The accident happened when she went to pick up her then 4-year-old son from school.

Their car collided into a school bus and left Munira with a serious brain injury that resulted in a coma. Seeing her condition after the incident doctors believed that Munira would never wake up.

Her son Omar Webair said, "I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she will wake up."

"I was four when the accident happened, and we used to live in Al Ain. That day, there was no bus at the school to take me home. My mother was sitting with me in the back seat. When she saw the crash coming she hugged me to protect me from the blow. There were no mobile phones and we could not call an ambulance. She was left like that for hours," he added.

While cherishing her recovery he added, "To me, she was like gold, the more time passed by, the more valuable she became."

Omar was never able to keep a full-time job because of his mother’s condition, though he never blamed anybody for that matter and always tried to be with his mother. "I never regretted it. I believe that, because of my support for her, God saved me from bigger troubles," he said.

The UAE Crown Prince Court, after knowing about the incident, has now provided a grant to take care of her hospital bills and other expenditure.

Munira, who recently visited the Shiekh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, can now talk clearly and recite verses of the Quran.
