Sri Lanka Easter bombings: President Sirisena bans radical groups

Colombo, Apr 28 (IANS): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has banned the National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and another radical group suspected to be behind the Easter Sunday explosions, which killed over 250 people and injured 500, the President's Office said in a statement.

Under the emergency regulations, President Sirisena has taken steps to declare the NTJ and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) in Sri Lanka as banned organisations, the statement said on Saturday.

"As such, all activities of those organizations as well as their property will be seized by the government. Steps are being taken to ban other extremist organizations operating in Sri Lanka, under Emergency Regulations," the statement added.

President Sirisena declared a conditional state of emergency last Tuesday to arrest all the suspected terrorists who were behind Sunday's attacks which targeted churches and luxury hotels.

The police said over 100 suspects had been arrested so far and a massive search operation was underway to detain more suspects, linked to the NTJ and other radical groups operating in the country.

President Sirisena said on Friday that there were about 140 people in Sri Lanka suspected to have links to the Islamic State group and assured all would be arrested in the coming days.

When Prime Modi's BJP government ignored the Pulwama strike and later went for war with Pakistan for electoral gains, excellent leadership quality has shown by the New Zeland Prime Minister and Sri Lanka President.

It is time for PM Modi and BJP-RSS to learn something from around the world. Nationalism just doesn't come by talk but need to walk the talk.

Somehow one great mistake happened in S.L. costings lives of so many innocent.
But S.L. Govt and people are very honest and clear in their mission and thinking.
I salute them for their uprighteousness.
They are genuinely repenting for the lapse and confessing it over and again.
They are now handling the Terror issue with Iron fist, banning all radical organisations and confiscating all their assets to ensure that such attacks will never reoccur again.

Maha Choron Ka Chowkidar Hoaxendra Fraudendra Fakendra Modi has his own agenda of hate and greed — that is the the reason he has nominated terrorist Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur who is an an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bombings to contest as the BJP candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency!!!

It was raining bombs in India before malegoan blasts. It only stopped after malegoan. So can't blame Sadhvi for this. Remove totalitarian concepts as foundation for religion and stop breeding. Peace will prevail.

Ganesh, Bangalore — please get your facts right and a reality check! There were 388 "major" incidents in India from 2014 to 2018 according to the South Asian Terrorism Portal (SATP). From 2009 to 2013, when a Congress-led government was in power, government records show 15 "major cases of terrorist incidents in the hinterland" - significantly more than under the current government.
But incidents in Indian-administered Kashmir, which were showing a steady decline from 2009 to 2014, have been on the rise under the current government. In 2018, Indian-controlled Kashmir saw the highest fatalities in terror-related violence in a decade with 451 deaths, according to the SATP.

Mr chokidar Chor hai, you should know that BJP had the guts to state about abrogation of article 370 and 35a and not an appeasing Congress. ARTICLE 370 AND 35 A EFFECTIVELY MEANS INDIA HILDS KASHMIR ONLY FIR PRESTIGE AND NOT MUCH FIR ANY BENEFIT. KASHMIR PROBLEM WAS A GIFT OF CONGRESS. Since BJP said it will remove an unequal and insulting article 370 there are bound to be more attacks. So should we be meek and surrender to those traitors?. The major terrorist attacks were before makegoan blasts.

It's amazing how quickly and efficiently the Sri Lankan Govt acted — with 24 hours they made over 10 arrests, and within a few days identified hideouts and eliminated terrorists hiding. Now they have proactively banned radical groups.
In contrast, not a single arrest after so many months of the Pulwama terrorist act!
Instead our 56-inch chest-thumping tom-toming Maha Choron Ka Chowkidar Hoaxendra Fraudendra Fakendra Modi has only been blabbering about surgical strikes and shamelessly seeking votes in the name of the armed forces — the man is nothing but a pathetic waste of space!
