Burqa, ghoonghat are same, ban both: Javed Akhtar

Bhopal, May 3 (IANS): Amid demand over ban on burqa (loose garment covering the whole body from head to feet worn by MUslim women), noted lyricist Javed Akhtar on Thursday advocated ban it as well as ghoonghat (a veil or headscarf worn by some married Hindu, Sikh and Jain women).

The Shiv Sena on Wednesday in its mouth-piece "Saamana" called for a ban on the burqa at public places.

Reacting to the call, Akhtar said: "All women in my family have been professionals. My mother taught at Hamidiya Collage of Bhopal. I have never seen the burqa at my home. That's why my knowledge about it is brief."

"There is a controversy over the burqa. Iran is a hardliner Muslim country, but women don't cover their faces there. A new law in Sri Lanka bars women from covering their faces. Whatever is your attire, the face should be visible," he said.

"If someone wants this kind of law here, and if this is somebody's opinion I don't have any objection. But before the end of last phase of (Lok Sabha) elections, the government must announce that no woman will be allowed to use ghoonghat in Rajasthan," Akhtar said.

Akhtar said: "Faces covered with the burqa or the ghoonghat, it's same. If both would be removed, I would be happy".

Kindly reveal your true name. Dont hide with identity of someone else. By the way if ur really slave of Allah as your name indicates (Abdullah) then you need to revise your learning of Islam and understand it wholly before even commenting on public platform.

Now a days every cat and dog feels that he is scholar in Islam and talk all BS in public platform, when infact they doesnt even known the ABC of Islam forget about being Alim who spends 8 years in learning and understanding it.

FYI, no matter one leaves in 20th century or 40th century, the teachings of Islam will be till eternal until day of Resurrection, this itself shows how much knowledge you carry with respect to Islam. So better come out of hidden identity.

Education doesn’t only mean become an engineer, doctor or so. Knowing about religion is also part of education. When you have some health issues you consult doctors because they are educated in health-related issues. While you have issues with some tradition or religious practices we just need to consult with true scholars who got educated in it.

As said above many feel that religion is something that can be measured according to their sense, and they start acting like scholars. Friends, whichever the tradition and costumes any religion practices, I am sure they will have strange and good reasons which many times common man may not be knowing.

But we also cant deny on some security issues as this has been many times took for wrong reasons, I feel scholars should (and will) come up with the facts after reviewing this again

What is once problem if they want to cover their face? When they call for the rights of wearing skirts, bikini then similarly one has the choice whether to cover her face or not.

Don't interfere in the matter of Religious practice. Any one interfering in others Religious matter is not tolerable and thinking to ban will lead to massive protest across the country and I guess many are willing for peace disturbance in India.

Javed Ahktarji -There is a very big difference between Burqa (Hijab/Nikab) and Goongat.

As per Sharia both Men & Woman have a strict dress code. When woman wear the Hijab/Nikab they are being Sharia compliant by conforming to their dress code and publicly proclaiming that they are pro Sharia.

As Sharia and Democracy are two forms of government that are diagonally opposite each other, when one is sending a clear message that when are pro Sharia, then you are automatically anti democracy.

The wearing Hijab/Nikab was instituted by the Calif to differentiate between the free Muslim woman and non Muslim woman, who could be captured and treated unequally.

Better not to interfere with any religious sentiments since Burqa has primary importance in Muslim religion.
