Udupi: Boat tragedy - Madhwaraj alleges cover-up, demands Rs 25 lac compensation

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, May 4: Alleging that the naval forces from INS Kochi killed the seven fishermen aboard Suvarna Tribhuja, former minister of fisheries Pramod Madhwaraj on Saturday May 4 demanded the central government to pay Rs 25 lac each to the families of the deceased fishermen as compensation.

"I have all the required documents. Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat is using the issue for his political gain. He is doing a drama to gain the trust from the fishermen community. Navy has misled the direction of investigation. Even though defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman knew the truth, why did she hide the fact? They had a fear that the fishermen community would turn against them. Therefore, they took their own time to disclose what happened to the missing fishermen," Pramod Madhwaraj said in a press conference here.

Madhwaraj said that credible sources have confirmed that 3 to 4 corpses were found floating in the sea near Maharashtra. "The entire issue was covered up. The naval forces from INS Kochi should take up the responsibility," he demanded.

He also questioned on why MLA Raghupati Bhat ventured into the sea when the Model Code of Conduct was in effect.

Madhwaraj stressed that if INS Kochi is responsible for the accident, then they should take responsibility to claim insurance of the boat. Navy should also pay Rs 25 lac to each of the seven fishermen’s families.

"If the Naval commander committed a mistake, he should be punished and the defense minister should take stern action against him. They have betrayed the trust of the fishermen. If the defense minister or the union government fails to take the necessary steps, I will move the Supreme Court and request appointment of retired Supreme Court judge to conduct judicial enquiry. The central government has shown complete negligence. I have respect for the Navy, but who is the responsible for the lives of seven fishermen?" questioned Madhwaraj.

"I had requested the state government to release Rs 10 lac to each of the fisherman’s family, but now I am stressing that central government should release compensation,” he said.

He also called BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje to be 'out of her mind' for her tweet that she is happy that the missing boat ‘Suvarna Tribhuja’ was found. There is nothing much to say about the tweet, he said.

Madhwaraj said that it has come to his notice that the alleged INC Kochi has undergone repairs and will set out to work soon.

“In case, the Navy fails to admit their mistake, I will write letter to the defense minister, Maharashtra and Karnataka chief ministers and to the President of India to grant permission to undertake further investigation," he said.

He also pointed out that the fishermen clearly located the spot from where Suvarna Tribhuja initially went missing. However, Navy said it went missing from Goa. “It could have been an accident. However, such incidents should be reported. Is there no value for a poor man’s life?” he questioned.

Speaking on evidence, he said the route, date, positioning and time of INS Kochi matches to that of Suvarna Tribhuja. “If anyone wants more evidence that this then they are just ‘traitors’,” he said.

“I am not a person who seeks publicity by telling lies. I am doing the work of opposition party. State government has done everything possible but Central government has neglected and tried to conceal the matter until the issue gets settled. If necessary, I will drag Nirmala Sitharaman to Supreme Court, because she is also involved in the political game," he said.

Yogish Shetty, president JD(S), Bhaskar Kediyoor, Satish Amin Amin Padukere, Janardhan Bhandarkar were present.

Based on the pictures published its is very unlikely that thie submarine hit the fishing vessel. Submarine usually moves completely submerged under water where as fishing trawler floats on water. The damage for the submarine shown in the picture is in the bottom part which is very unlikely to hit the floating trawler unless submarine was moving upside down

Pramod Madhwaraj had raised this issue and told the media the same thing before the elections that the Navy ship had hit the fishermen boat. But neither the paid media had published this nor the Central Government had taken this issue seriously. Infact all the BJP leaders at the Central and BJP local leaders (including Raghupati Bhat, Shobha, Fishermen Association President Yashpal Suvarna) were aware. But they didn't opened their mouth, fearing the backlash from the fishermen community.
And our Fishermen are so blind on Feku Modi, that nothing is greater than Modi for them. Such blind people. These people are so dumb that, the delegation(consists of Bhat, Yashpal, etc) which had gone to meet our great PM to submit letter to do investigation, but the PM didn't even had courtesy to meet these people. Even after, these people chant his name Modi, Modi. They are not bothered or don't have feeling for the missing or death of their own community people, they only get pleasure and happiness in chanting his name.

Mr. Fekendra Modi behaves like Indian Army, Navy & Airforce are his private property. In fact, he openly said 'My Airforce has done airstrike on Pakistan post Pulwama attack, so vote for me for this achievement'. Going by this logic, Modi should be made responsible, if this boat was hit by Indian Navy!
If he is responsible for airstrike, he should be responsible for each attacks carried out by Army, Navy too!

We are technologically well-developed country. Then, how it took 4 months to find a boat?
Was BJP waiting to get elections over, so that they don't have vote loss due to this tragic incident?
Missing Boat was found, but no clue on missing fishermen & still Sobakka is saying 'I am happy that boat was found'!!!

It is like bargaining for fish. Pay 25 lakhs to each families and it will be ok. Insted of thanking navy so much politics is going on. Even two years back when airforce transport plane with defence personnel went down in Bay of Bengal such a search attept was not made. Because it is not a political issue.
