PM's Rajiv jibe: Why double standard, Jaitley asks Congress

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday attacked the Congress for referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "chor" (thief) but crying hoarse when the Prime Minister called former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi "corrupt".

In a tweet, Arun Jaitley asked the Congress if there are two model codes of conduct -- they can call the Prime Minister thief but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot call a former PM corrupt.

In a tweet on Monday, the Union Finance Minister said: "The Congress and its President can call an honest Prime Minister 'Chor'. No Model Code of Conduct is preventing that. If the PM calls the Congress legacy as 'Corrupt No. 1', the Congress complains that the Model Code of Conduct is violated. Are there two Model Codes of Conduct?"

The Congress had on Monday demanded that PM Modi be barred from election campaigning for calling former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi "corrupt".

Senior Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Salman Khurshid and Rajeev Shukla had met the Election Commission on Monday evening to lodge a complaint against Modi.

"The comments of Prime Minister Modi about Rajiv Gandhiji are serious in nature. The language he used is shameful, which cannot be uttered again," Singhvi told reporters outside the Nirvachan Bhavan, the EC headquarters.

"We have asked the Commission officials to bar Modiji from further campaigning this election."

Taking a jibe at Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Modi at a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh on Saturday had said: "Your father was termed 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'bhrashtachari' (corrupt) No. 1."

Only uncultuered and uncivilised people in the BJP especially our uneducated PM can invoke a dead persons name to win elections. Shamefull conduct unbecoming of our PM and for Jetley to justify the same.

Just proves how low our PM can stoop for his selfish motives.

Rajiv gandhi was termed Mr Clean by the high Court.
And BJP never appealed in SC. Bcoz they knew he is clean and they did not have feku at that time to take SC for a ride.........vajpayeeji was a respectable leader......

BUT feku is a feku- god knows if we will have enough judges& lawyers for number of cases he will have to face once out of power

This man jootley has never won a Parliamentary election. He is appointed as finance minister.
The electorate threw him out & the only way to Parliament was via the Rajya Sabha way. And now this muffin is lecturing us on what is correct?
He was the one who put the people into hardships by going after the NGOs, then he gets the electoral bonds passed as a money bill.
Shame on you, jootley. You are a scamster of the 1st order.

MMS qualification is a mountain compared to 'meter-long-tounge-holder' tea seller.

MMS did not cheaat the masses with GST or promise of 15L, sent-off his friends to Antigua.

Nor with Rafale-like contracts to his friends.

Mr. Jaitley, what did you do fighting the Bofors case to prove Rajiv Gandhi a thief ? Why did you not prove him a thief, why did you give up when he was given clean-chit ? Listen, minister, you guys are not allowing even the dead in peace. Whereas, the head of your government is all hand-in-glove when Ambani got that contract for Rafale. Your leader is alive to answer the queries, but a dummy documentation was submitted to SC which again was given a decision without reading the docs.

Do you agree/approve for Modi to be called a thief on all land-grab, Vyaapam, food-adulteration, Black-money and all scams that took place in last five years ???
