Mandrem cleans up public wells to overcome water scarcity

Daijiworld Media Network - Mandrem (SR)

Mandrem, May 9: In an optimistic initiative to solve water scarcity problem in summer, a group of people in Mandrem decided to clean up public wells, which were totally neglected.

The initiative started through social media by Adv Prasad Shapurkar by creating a WhatsAap group named ‘Mandrem Pani Prakalp’. Instead of depending on irregular supply of tap water or water tankers, they decided to clean up public wells which are unattended in the region.

The initiative started with the Devasthan well of Askode waddo, represented by the Sarpanch of Mandrem Pradip Hadfadkar. Retired police officer Umesh Gaonkar also volunteered in the initiative.

The group headed by Prasad Shapurkar removed the mud and made the well water ready for drinking. The panchayat and the group now plan to spread this movement throughout the village, cleaning up all the possible wells.
