Mangaluru: Police fire at notorious rowdy in self defense, injure him

Mangaluru, May 10: The police personnel opened fire at a notorious named Gowrish, an associate of another noted criminal on the night of Thursday, May 9 at Jappinamogaru in city. The police said the firing was done in self defense.

Gowrish is accused in 6 cases, of which 3 are murder cases.

It is said that Gowrish has been threatening people and extorting money from them since many days. Police had received a complaint regarding this on Thursday. When a police team went to arrest him, Gowrish attacked one of the police constables with a dagger. At that point, the police personnel fired in self defence and arrested him.

Gowrish has sustained injuries on his leg.

Police sources said that Gowrish is an associate of Akash Bhavan Sharan, an aide of underworld element Vicky Shetty.

    A police team went to nab a single person and they had to shoot him in the leg to subdue him. Couple of lathi blows would have been more beneficial to him than a bullet.
