Bantwal, Apr 8:
As the opposition over setting up of A M R Power Project at Shamboor near here has been gaining momentum  since the past several weeks, the aggrieved locals demolished a transmission tower erected a few days ago near  Talapady in B Mooda village by the said company, on Monday April 6 night.

The officials of A M R Power had erected the high tension transmission towers on the paddy fields of the peasants, in spite of strong opposition by the locals.  However, the transmission tower that was erected recently in a private property was connected to the main grid under heavy police protection a few days ago.  It is believed that some miscreants, who were incensed over the forcible erection of the tower, used traditional equipments to damage the tower and causing it to crumble.

A M R Power company officials have lodged a complaint at the rural police here, in this regard.

If this tower is erected on private property without compensation, then this is the only remedy in sight. The owners of the property could easily confiscate the steel. AMR must have shelled out few bucks here and there,to have nerve to install tower on private property. This is a law less country in every aspect. Govt. officials nor Politicians follow the law, neither big Corporations nor vast number of Citizen follow the Law. It is getting very fearful for decent Public to live in respect.

Cumulative! And I pay the same amount of tax as everybody. What do I get for losing my property? You want me to run after you for the rest of my life for peanuts compensation? What is mine today is not mine tomorrow and till the last breath of my life! I am losing my property for nothing anyway!

Why would I allow you take it before compensating? You may have occupied the piece of the land as big as the palm of my hand - but it has the ability to transmit power not in kilowatts but mega - in mega watts! Pay me accordingly which is peanuts to you anyway. You buy your peace of mind paying peanuts now.

Without electricity there can not be development...!!! In the name of development running the high tension line in a private property without suitably compensating is also not acceptable. In my oipinion this is a result of showing muscle power to the general public !!!!?????

Although I do not like gross generalizations, I see that we Indians have very little respect for public property as well as other people's personal property. We hold strikes and damage our public transports, which was paid for by our own tax rupees. I believe that we the collective citizens are responsible for our destiny, and with such attitudes we are not going to progress, at least not at the pace of our potential.
