Mangalore, Apr 9: Naushad Kashimji, a wellknown advocate in City and a native of Bhatkal, was shot dead by unknown assailants at Falnir in City on Thursday night.

Speaking to media persons at the spot, Superintendent of Police Dr A Subramanyeshwar Rao said that Kashimji was walking towards his apartment in Falnir on Dosa Camp road when two assailants opened fire at Kashimji and fled the spot. Though he ran into cover and tried to hid in an apartment, he died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Though a dog squad was pressed into service immediately, the dog ran towards the end of the road and returned.

Five live bullets have been found on the road.

Interestingly, Kashimji was arguing for Rasheed Malbari, a Dawood-aide who was nabbed by the special squad of Western Range police in co-ordination with Central and State Intelligence recently. Malbari was presented before the court today itself and he was remanded to judicial custody for the second term.

Kashimji was practicising law in the city for the past approximately seven years. He was practising law under senior advocate Purshothama Poojary. Kashimji was an old student of S.D.M. Law College in the city and was a member of Mangalore Bar Council. The president of Mangalore Bar Council S. P. Chengappa condemned the alleged incident of shooting him dead and condoled his death. Neighbours of Kashimji who spoke to The Hindu said that the advocate always used his car while going out of his home apartment. However, on Thursday he walked out as they suspect that someone might have invited him outside.

It may be recalled that a Mangalore based media had received threatening calls warning dire consequences if Malbari was not released.

Bangalore based TV channel reports that, Underworld Ravi Poojary has claimed the responsibilty for killing of Lawyer.

Mangalore is already being ruled by the underworld. There should be immediate steps taken to eliminate the underworld presence in Mangalore and Udupi. Everybody knows it but the politicians dont talk about it. Time has come to eliminate them, just like what was done in Mumbai. whats the police doing?

Dear readers, see few of the above photos, (if you watch carefully) all the policemens faces are confused and nervous. Very soon we will have a poor helpless inocent guy cought by the police producing him as the muderer, while at the same time protecting the really culprits. This is what the Karnataka police been famous for these past few days. We should all just pray to God that the true culprit should be punished and not any inocent person.

He was lawyer not judge to pass judgment on culprits. This article is biased and trying to demonize a prominent lawyer and young thinker of great India by quoting unnecessary accusation on Rasheed malbari.

Mr Kiran Shetty I partially agree with your perceptions about Bhatkal. It is true that it has contributed great people...However the bad impression about Bhatkal is by the events like the murder of Dr Chittaranjan.(who incidentally was a good doctor, great MLA, liked by all communities)

In picture 2 two police officers and in picture 7 one police officer look very confused, very nervous and unconfortable.... Lots of material left behind....? to cover up on some unsuspecting poor guy? CBI should look into the matter but State Home and CM ministers and puppet police may not be very confortable..... Let us have the truth out please...

our community has lost a genious , young and promising advocate . every law abiding citizen should condemn this heinious crime. Mr. Krish will know what type of lesson is this, when god forbid he will suffer such loss personally. May Allah reward him for his all good services rendered by him to the human beings and pardon his sins if any during his short but meaning full life on this earth.

I know Mr.Naushad Kashimji as a very good friend and a good professional.I stayed at Sweethome Apartments from 2003-2007 and everyday morning we used to meet while he used to water some 100 plants he planted and I used to clean my car. We used to discuss several legal matters also.It is unfortunate that the miscreants took his life. He was a dynamic man and definitely had a bright future. He was admired and respected by everyone in the society.I am worried for his 3 year old son and 4 month old daughter. My sincere condolences are with the family members and may his soul rest in peace. With prayers.

These people you don't have any respect for Indian Constitution at all. They do not want anybody to represent Mr.Malabari since he is a Muslim, this is the stand they are taking against all Muslim accused whether he is a real culprit or not.Unfortunately readers here cannot recognize the reality!!!

My heartest condolence to Naused's family, and a brave young man lost his precious life for practising his noble profession. It

India is a democractic country and "Every accused is innocent until proven Guilty' as per the constitution.George Cruz unnecessaryly put all the blame on the Brave Lawyer Naused Kashmji as he is backed by SIMI. Naused is not an ordinary goonda or a Sena worker. He is a highly respected Lawyer of Mangalore Bar Council, who fought many cases for poor and innocent victims mainly from minority community.Only mistake(if at all) he has done is respected his profession and practicised it according to what he studied for.

Ram jethmalani,Soli Sorabji, Majid Memon all doing so. So,people should stop resorting to reactionary comments whenever issues like this arise. Instead they should adopt a proactive approach as these are very sensitive issues and everything is not to be seen in black and white.I think a big conspiracy behind this attack and D.K.Police should resolve this at their earliest possible. It is very sad that all concerned are trying to give a negative twist to this attack.

It is a not a good scene to see defenseless lawyers get shot. Another angle to look at this incident is that some of these lawyers are bribed by the LeT or SIMI financiers to blotch the legal proceedings. The traitors like Rasheed Malbari who is a proven criminal across the globe get a speedy trial and should put away for good.

Even Pakistani president Zardair indicated that Mumbai attacks would have been possible without a solid support of LeT supporters (traitors) in India.
