Speaking to media persons at the spot, Superintendent of Police Dr A Subramanyeshwar Rao said that Kashimji was walking towards his apartment in Falnir on Dosa Camp road when two assailants opened fire at Kashimji and fled the spot. Kashimji was practicising law in the city for the past approximately seven years. He was practising law under senior advocate Purshothama Poojary. Kashimji was an old student of S.D.M. Law College in the city and was a member of Mangalore Bar Council. The president of Mangalore Bar Council S. P. Chengappa condemned the alleged incident of shooting him dead and condoled his death. Neighbours of Kashimji who spoke to The Hindu said that the advocate always used his car while going out of his home apartment. However, on Thursday he walked out as they suspect that someone might have invited him outside.
It may be recalled that a Mangalore based media had received threatening calls warning dire consequences if Malbari was not released.
