Oman: First Ever Billawas Meet in Muscat on Apr 17

Musact, Apr 13: For the first time in Oman – the Billawa community members living and working in the Sultanate of Oman will hold their inaugural meet on Friday, 17th April 2009 at 09:00 am at Al Masa Hall – Ruwi – Muscat.
This maiden get-together of the Billawa community members of Oman is the brainchild of six prominent members spearheaded by Pithamber B. Alke who has been a keen activist in serving the Billawa community back in India for decades. He is also very activist supporter of Tulu Culture and Tradition and instrumental to stage many dramas and programs. The other five member team comprises of S. K. Poojari, Ashok Suvarna, Arun Sanil, Umesh Bantwal and Dr. Anchan C.K. These members are astute and well-known in their own respective fields and have been playing vital role towards the development of Tulu community in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Oman Billawas focus on not only bringing the community in Oman together but also aims in bringing the community together for a purpose to protect, preserve, and promote Tulunadu’s ethnic and socio-cultural heritage, to promote and celebrate festivals, and to provide financial assistance to the needy and deserving.
In addition, lectures, symposiums, debates, and discussions will be held from time to time to highlight and resolve some of the issues faced by Billawa community. It also calls on using the ideas, brainstorming and projects to help enhance the skills and help the community.
On 17th April 2009 Oman Billawas will see families and friends coming from Muscat, Barkha Sohar, Nizwa etc. Oman Billawas forms a perfect bridge between you and friends. It is a platform to share the happiness, grief, frustrations, achievements with friends and near and dear ones from the great land of Tulunadu creating a home away from home creating a sense of belongingness.
