Mangaluru, May 18: In connection with the recovery of cash amounting to one crore rupees from Manjunath (56) from Malleshwaram, Bengaluru by the police on the rounds near car street here on Friday May 17, the income tax officials on Saturday May 18 raided the residence and office of a businessman identified as Raju Pawar.
Manjunath, who had landed in the city from Bengaluru on Friday morning, had a sealed packet containing currency notes worth one crore rupees kept in a bag he was carrying. However, he had failed to either produce documentary proof for possessing so much cash, nor details like to whom it belonged. He just claimed that the parcel was handed over by a man from Bengaluru for being handed over to another person in this city. He was arrested.
Based on the information given by Manjunath, the police raided Pawar's residence and office, and found some documents, sources said.
Also, another person, also named Manjunath (40) from Davanagere, was arrested by the police after he was caughter carrying Rs 24 lac to the city. As he too failed to provide satisfactory explanation or proof, he has been taken into custody by the police.
