Malaysia: Dream Tour turns into Nightmare for Nithyananda Shetty

Kundapur, Apr 15: Nityanand Shetty, a native of Noojady village in the taluk, who was on a tour of Singapore along with two daughters, fell off the decks near Singapore and went missing. His wife, who too fell into the sea, was however, saved.

Shetty (44), working as general manager in the famous Charmakki Group of Companies in Bangalore, had gone to Singapore with his wife Kasturi and two daughters on a tour. It is learnt, on Monday April 13, the family was bound for a tour on the Star Cruise from an island in Maylaysia. Shetty accidentally lost his balance and fell into the sea just 20 metres from the shore. Kasturi, who was with her husband at the time, stretched her hands in a bid to save him, but fell into the sea in the bargain, it is gathered.
The security guards of the ship immediately jumped into the sea to save the duo. But, they could find Kasturi and not her husband. She was admitted to a private hospital there.
Intensive search is on for Nityanand Shetty. Malaysian Coast guard is engaged in the rescue operation and till Wednesday evening, there was no progress. The accident occurred near Penang island.
Nityanand Shetty, son of Noojady Heriyanna Shetty and Girijamma Shetty, is an altruist. He had spent lot of money on his own for providing public conveniences, power, school, religious centres etc., in his village. The news has come as a shock for the villagers.
