Bengaluru, May 19: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police of the city busted a gang that used to carry out red sander smuggling.
The raids conducted by the slueths of CCB on various warehouses in the city yielded 4,000 kilograms of red sanders which is worth Rs 3.5 crore. As many as 13 people are arrested by the police in this connection.
According to CCB, this gang has a far and wide connection. Abdul Rasheed, the leader of the gang is eluding the police of various states since many years. In addition Abdul was one of the member of the counterfeit currency gang that was caught in 2009.
M S Basha is the driver who has transported the red sanders to the travel agents from the various places where it was stored in the city from where the outbound buses used to take them to other places.
The job of the other arrested was to conceal these red sanders and also keep a watch on the warehouses where it was stored. They used to do this work for the commission that they used to get once the shipment safely reached the desired destinations.
Giving more details, Alok Kumar, additional commissioner of police (crime) said that the team of CCB was about to raid a warehouse but the culprits were successful in dispatching two shipment of red sanders to Chennai and Mumbai. The city sleuths are trying to bring the red sanders from Chennai and Mumbai through the police of those states.
