Byndoor, May 20: A gang of six gatecrashed into a house at Kirimanjeshwar near here on Saturday, May 17, and launched deadly attack on the family members with lethal weapons including saber. It is said that the attack was the outcome of a minor dispute, and five members of the family suffered injuries.
Sharada (32), resident of Konegadde House in Gandhinagar, Gangebail in Kirimanjeshwar, suffered critical injuries. She is being treated at KMC Hospital Manipal. Other members of her family, Susheela (52), Ganesh (45), Usha (52) and Sharada (45) sustained injuries which are of less intensity. They were admitted into a private hospital at Koteshwar.
The family which resides at Konegadde House had taken part in the annual fair at Kirimanjeshwar. The family members were having dinner after returning from the fair when Shobha from Nanana Mane, and her brothers, Sathish, Damodar, Ratnakar, Shivaram as well as her husband, Naveenchandra, barged into the house at Konegadde and indiscriminately attacked the family members with cutlass, cudgel and saber. The family members were taken aback by this sudden attack. The gang members swung their weapons at will, as a result of which Sharada suffered serious injuries to her head and neck. Blood also oozed out her nose. Susheela and Sharada were injured in their hands and legs. Ganesh and Usha were injured in hands and other parts of their bodies.
The two families had fought on the issue of parking of a vehicle in front of Nanana Mane in the evening. The Konegadde House residents had filed police complaint about this incident. It is said that the police personnel had promised the family to look into the matter in the morning. Thereafter the family left to attend the annual fair at Kirimanjeshwar. They were having dinner after returning home when the attack happened. The police visited the spot thereafter, scrutinized the damage done by the gang, and said they were taking steps to arrest the culprits.
Organizations of Devadiga community have condemned this inhuman attack on a poor family. They have threatened to come together and hold protest unless the accused are arrested and dealt with sternly as per law. Raju Devadiga, president of the local unit of Devadiga community organization, issued this warning on behalf of his and other organizations.
