Mangalore: Nephie Rod, Prashanth Raj Nominated for Global Konkani Best Singer Award

Mangalore, Apr 23: Mandd Sobhann, premier Konkani cultural organization on Thursday April 23 announced the final three nominees each for the first Global Konkani Music Awards in five categories.
Addressing the media persons at the Press Club, Eric Ozario, Gurkaar, Mandd Sobhann said that the ultimate winners will only be announced at the awards presentation ceremony which will be held on May 10 at Kalaangann. Eminent singer Usha Uthup will present the awards. Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary will be the chief guest.
Nephie Rod, Akshada Talaulikar, Sangeetha Balachandar were nominated for Best Singer Female Award 2008 while in the Dr Prasanth Raj, Lawry Travasso and Joel Maxwell Rebello have been nominated for Best Singer Male Award. Dilip Kashinath Vaze, Ashwin Xavier Pinto and Sidhanath Buyao would test their luck for Best Music Composer award while the late Ulhas Buyao, Wilson Sequeira (Wilson Kateel) and Kevin Misquith have been nominated for Best Lyricist Award, and The Best Album category involves Swadik Sobd (produced by Fr Alwyn Sequeira and music arranged by Praveen Dutt Stephen), Akshada Geet (produced by Amul Mainkar and music arranged by Kedar Divakar) and Buyanv with Love (produced by Buyao Theatres and music arranged by Sidhanath Buyao) music albums.
Ozario informed that the awards consist of Rs 25,000 cash and a trophy. The five cash awards are sponsored by Marian Lazarus D’Souza Kuwait. He added that ‘Konkan Kogull’ Wilfy Rebimbus will be conferred with the ‘Konkani Music Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his contribution to Konkani music. The award consists of Rs 1 lac in cash and a gold medal and a trophy.
The panel of judges consisted of distinguished musicians and lyricists Pandit Bhaskar Chandavarkar, Dr Aparna Mayekar Dr Charles Vas, Alwyn Fernandes, Joel Periera, Apolinaris D’Souza, Melvyn Rodrigues, Dr Pratap Naik and Rony Crasta.
